New, 5 comments

Hyndman has a big week

Welcome to another week of Big D Soccer’s coverage of your favorite players with ties to FC Dallas, the FCD Academy, and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Emerson Hyndman saw a return to form, and a couple of former FCD Academy players returned home.

Europe

Emerson Hyndman (AP - Rangers(Loan)/Scottish Premiership): Emerson Hyndman started and played 90 minutes, in Ranger FC’s 2-0 victory over Partick Thistle.

Hyndman finished with an assist on the night, displaying some amazing footwork in doing so:

Just Hyndman doing Hyndman things as Rangers FC remain in 3rd place.

Fabian Castillo (FCD - Trabzonspor/Super Lig): No match scheduled this weekend.

Weston McKennie (AP - Schalke 04/Bundesliga): No match scheduled this weekend

Keaton Parks (AP - Unattached): While there have been no news on Parks this week, it should be noted that Tranfermarkt.com has Keaton joining Portimonense once July 1 rolls around, on a minimal transfer fee (25g-50g) from Varzim. This would be a great move for Parks, as Portimonense is set to gain promotion to Portugal’s top division next season.

Mexico

Omar Gonzales (DFW - Pachuca/Liga MX): Started and played 90 minutes. Pachuca had to settle for a 0-0 home draw against Chivas de Guadalajara.

The draw sees Pachuca drop to 8th place.

Hector Montalvo (AP - Tigres UANL/Liga MX): Montalvo travelled with the Tigres UANL U19s last week, as they participated in Dallas Cup 2017.

Montalvo started at RB on Tuesday (April 11th), as Tigres UANL drew 2-2 against Red Bull Brazil. This was the second game he started at RB, as he started there in the first match of the tournament, which Tigres won 2-1 against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Montalvo started at CB on Wednesday (April 12), as Tigres defeated Toronto FC Academy 2-0. The win secured 1st place in their group, and set up an all Liga MX showdown in the semifinals against Monterrey Rayados U19s.

Hector started at RB against Monterrey and played the full 90 minutes. Tigres would go on to lose 2-1 to Monterrey, a bitter loss against a Liga MX rival. With the loss, Tigres UANL were eliminated from the tournament, and Montalvo missed an opportunity to square off against his old Academy in the finals. He did leave a parting message:

Richard Sanchez (FCD/AP - Tampico Madero(Loan)/Ascenso MX): Suited up but did not play as Tampico drew 0-0 at home against Murcielagos.

The draw sees Tampico climb to 10th place.

Rogelio Funes Mori (DFW - Monterrey/Liga MX): Started and Played 90 minutes on Wednesday, at Santos Laguna. Rogelio didn’t score, but did end up helping with the first goal of the match:

While Chara did most of the work on that score, Rogelio made the long outlet pass that resulted in the goal. Monterrey was able to rally from down two, to earn a 2-2 draw on the road.

Rogelio started and played 90 minutes on Sunday, at first place Toluca. Rogelio was held scoreless, but Monterrey was able to leave town with a 1-1 draw.

The back to back draws on the road, means Monterrey fall one spot to 4th place.

Alejandro Zendejas (FCD/AP - Guadalajara/Liga MX): Zendejas travelled with the Chivas U19s last week, as they participated in Dallas Cup 2017.

Zendejas started against Coritiba (Brazil), as Chivas went on to lose 4-3 on Tuesday (April 11)

Zendejas started against Real Salt Lake, as Chivas settled for a 0-0 draw on Wednesday (April 12). Chivas needed a victory to win the group and advance to the semifinals, but the draw ended their run in the Dallas Cup.

Central America & South America

Moises Hernandez (FCD/AP - C.S.D. Comunicaciones/Guatemala): Moises started and played 90 minutes on Wednesday. Los Cremas scored a 2-1 home win against Suchitepequez.

Since Hernandez claimed the starting LB spot, Los Cremas have climbed out of the cellar and into 3rd place.

Blas Perez (FCD - Club Blooming/Bolivia): Did not suit up due to injury. Blooming lost 6-0 on the road to The Strongest.

The loss keeps Blooming in 3rd place.

Major League Soccer

Lee Nguyen (DFW - New England Revolution): Lee started on Saturday and played 52 minutes. The Revolution were handed a 3-0 loss at the Chicago Fire.

The loss sees the Revs drop to 7th place in the Eastern Conference.

Greg Garza (DFW - Atlanta United FC): Garza started and played 90 minutes on Saturday. Atlanta United FC suffered a 2-1 defeat at the Montreal Impact.

The loss drops the expansion side, to a still impressive 6th place in the Eastern Conference.

Mikey Ambrose (AP - Atlanta United FC): Returned from short loan to Charleston Battery.

Suited up, but did not play, in AUFC’s 2-1 defeat at Montreal.

Jared Jeffrey (DFW - D.C. United): Jared started and played 90 minutes on Saturday. DC United suffered a 2-0 loss at the New York Red Bulls.

The loss drops DCU to 8th place in the Eastern Conference.

Dillon Powers (DFW - Colorado Rapids): Powers started and played 90 minutes on Saturday. The Rapids suffered the rare home loss, 2-1 against Real Salt Lake.

With the loss, Colorado drops to dead last (11th) in the Western Conference.

USL & NASL

Corben Bone (DFW - Cincinnati FC): Got his first start of the season for Cincinnati FCs home opener against Saint Louis FC. Played the full 90 minutes and helped spark the attack that lead to Forward Djiby scoring four goals on the night, in a 4-0 home victory.

Corben got in on the fun, with a sweet assist on the 3rd goal:

With the victory, Cincinnati FC finds itself 7th place in the Eastern Conference.

Devin Vega (AP - San Antonio FC): Suited up and entered the game in the 78th minute at Right Mid, with SAFC leading 2-0. Devin made an immediate impact, when he rampaged down the right flank, and forced his defender to foul him inside the box for a PK. Rafa Castillo converted said PK, and SAFC went on to win 4-0 at home against expansion side Reno 1868 FC.

The victory keeps San Antonio FC undefeated and 1st place in the Western Conference.

Stephen McCarthy (DFW - San Antonio FC): McCarthy started and played 90 minutes in San Antonio FCs 4-0 home victory against Reno 1868 FC.

Ruben Luna (FCD/AP - RGVFC Toros): Luna started and played 90 minutes as RGVFC fell 1-0 at home against the visiting Colorado Swithbacks, Wednesday night.

The loss sees RGVFC drop to 7th place in the Western Conference.

Chase Minter (DFW - Real Monarchs SLC): Suited up and entered the game in the 72nd minute, as Real Monarchs were looking to rally from a goal down.

Real Monarchs would go on to lose 2-1 at home against the Colorado Springs Switchbacks.

Conor Doyle (DFW - Puerto Rico FC): No game scheduled.
