FC Dallas nearly left San Jose with three big points but settled for a draw after a last second goal gave by Jahmir Hyka ended the match 1-1.
FC Dallas got a go-ahead goal by Kellyn Acosta in the 78th minute but the San Jose Earthquakes clawed their way back. The draw keeps FC Dallas unbeaten on the season, while the Quakes remain unbeaten at home so far in 2017.
The two sides traded blows in the first half as the Quakes held the possession and the passing game by a large amount. In the 16th minute San Jose forced Jesse Gonzalez into a tough save when Chris Wondolowski got on the end of a cross by Nick Lima. Gonzalez was barely able to tip Wondolowski’s header over the bar.
Dallas responded with a great chance of their own in the 27th minute as Cristian Colman out muscled a defender and then pushed the ball past keeper David Bingham to the far post. But the Paraguayan wasn’t able to get on the end of the ball to put it into the goal as it went out of bounds.
FC Dallas manager Oscar Pareja made a swap in the second half to go to a 4-2-3-1 formation and it unlocked the game for the team as they found their breakthrough in the 78th minute. Javier Morales controlled the ball in midfield and found Maxi Urruti at the top of the box. An Earthquakes defender poked the ball loose from Urruti but the tackle sent the ball straight to Acosta at the back post. The Dallas Homegrown did the rest as he picked up the loose ball and hammered it into the back of the net.
San Jose managed to respond in the fourth minute of extra time. A long ball was sent over the top of the defense where Hyka was able to get it and beat a couple Dallas defenders before slipping a ball to the far post to tie the game up.
Dallas will return home next week as they host western rivals Sporting Kansas City for the start of a two game home stand to end the month of April.
