Workhorse of the Week vs Pachuca and Minnesota United

2-0. This is vintage FC Dallas at home. That game against Pachuca? Disappointing. Come inside and vote for that vintage FC Dallas player as Workhorse of the Week.

MLS: Minnesota United FC at FC Dallas Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Despite major poll malfunctions last week, I think most of you, regardless of that game against Pachuca, feel pretty hopeful about this team. Sure, you are disappointed with the result, but you won’t let it keep you down. That’s good.

Turning our attention to a busy and big week, FC Dallas started out the week giving up three goals in a pretty miserable performance at Pachuca and then rebounded nicely with a 2-0 win against Minnesota at home. That Minnesota win at least wipes the slate clean and refocuses this team going forward, but that Pachuca game was frustrating.

On the good side, FC Dallas was in it. The first goal should have been offside, but FCD managed a sort of miraculous header to keep themselves at least in the conversation. Giving up two stupid goals late was a disappointing way to cap off the series. It’s hard for me to pick a Workhorse nominee for that game, because the team just seemed very uneven. I’d say Walker Zimmerman was our best bet, but he and Matt Hedges were shuffling around on dead legs by the end of the match. Tough.

On the bad side of that Pachuca game, Chris Seitz takes the cake. I love Chris. He’s one of my favorite FCD players, but we needed better. I don’t blame everything on Chris - he was let down some by his teammates, but we needed some big saves to keep us in that match. Jesse Gonzalez may have earned that No. 1 spot with the game against Minnesota, but we’ll see. Chris will get his starts, that’s for sure.

The game against Minnesota United was no gimme. As awful as they have looked at the beginning of the year, they managed a big draw at Colorado, no easy task, and then got their first win against a woeful Real Salt Lake. Though you can talk down their opponents, any team comes away from a win feeling better about themselves, and Minnesota came into this game knowing that a point is always possible. And for stretches, they nearly made it more difficult for FC Dallas.

Still, playing against Minnesota and getting a solid win probably feels like getting a nice Sonic shake (chocolate? peanut butter? strawberry?) after visiting the dentist down south. Barrios can relax a little, getting his first goal of the season. Javier Morales looks like he is ready and maybe a key to get this team firing on all cylinders. There’s plenty good to take away and build upon.

Vote below. Here’s my suggestions:

Atiba Harris - #GoodGuyAtiba maybe didn’t have the best game, but someone at MLS central loves this guy.

Jesse Gonzalez - Good solid game. He has things to work on to, but did he do enough to earn the No. 1 spot for a while?

Walker Zimmerman - Over two games, Walker has been solid. There are whispers that he has a higher ceiling than Matt Hedges. If I was Matt, I would take that as an invitation to get even better.
