Having played three matches this 2017 USL season, the Oklahoma City Energy FC have found themselves without a win. Accumulating two losses and a draw, the Energy sits thirteenth (two spots above the bottom) in the Western Conference with one point to their name.
In this stretch, OKC has yet to earn a clean sheet and score more than one goal in a match. Only managing to score three goals in three games, the offensive worries of last season still seem to loom over Jimmy Nielsen and his team.
The Energy lost their first home match of the season over the weekend against Rio Grande Valley Toros FC. The Houston Dynamo affiliation narrowly won the match 1-0 and further sent OKC down a disappointing spiral.
The Energy will need to start scoring if they wish to grab three points. Their weekday opponent the Sacramento Republic will travel to Taft Stadium Wednesday night to play against the boys in green. Sacramento is currently only one of three teams in the USL to have won their first three matches of the season. The Californian team is laced with former MLS veterans, including former FC Dallas midfielder Adam Moffat, and will provide a challenge for OKC.
A strong result is necessary for Oklahoma City this week. Fans should expect the club to push out a strong attacking lineup with hopes of seeing a few goals graze the net. This match can turn the Energy’s early blunders around, but it will truly be a test for the USL side.
