Acosta scored a game winner in the second half to go along with a goal from Maximiliano Urruti to help give FC Dallas their sixth straight season opening win, a new MLS record. It was also the club’s first road win in LA during the regular season since 2009.
Dallas poured on the pressure early on in this one with three straight corner kicks in the 15th minute. On the second corner, Michael Barrios got the ball on the wing after a poor Galaxy clearance, he placed a long cross in front of goal that forced Jack McBean to clear it just over the crossbar.
The first real chance for FCD in the in opening half came in the 33rd minute on a cross from Roland Lamah to the head of Kellyn Acosta, which landed a little wide to the feet of Barrios who one-timed a shot on goal only to get cleared off the line by Jelle Van Damme.
Just after halftime, FC Dallas struck first on a great goal from Urruti. The Argentina forward took the ball near the top of the penalty box and made a couple dribbles to open up space on Van Damme before firing a shot to the far post behind Brian Rowe.
LA responded in the 53rd minute on a penalty kick from Giovani dos Santos. Hernan Grana was whistled with the foul on Dave Romney.
In the 68th minute Dallas regained the lead on a wonderful goal from Acosta. The Dallas Homegrown broke free into the penalty box after a pass by Lamah and fired a low shot past Rowe.
FC Dallas returns to action next Saturday as they remain on the road for another week when they visit Sporting KC.
