Energy FC vs. Swope Park Rangers USL Preview

New, 1 comment

Oklahoma City soccer is back!

Blue and Green never looked so good.

The USL season is back and better than ever! With the young league recently earning D2 status in North America's convoluted pyramid, the quality of soccer in the USL is surely to rise. And who else better to watch during this rise than the Oklahoma City Energy FC!

Coming off of an underwhelming 2016 campaign, Energy FC head coach Jimmy Nielsen will want to kick off 2017 right with a win against weekend opponents Swope Park Rangers.

Both Western Conference sides share a similar history as they both have been affiliated with Sporting Kansas City for a period of time. Now, OKC is currently affiliated with the recent U.S. Open Cup Champions and MLS Supporter Shield winners, FC Dallas.

The Energy will enter into the match with a completely revitalized squad. Having released over half the squad in the offseason, a squad full of new and old faces will take the field Saturday night. Now laced with MLS veterans and USL youngsters, OKC contains a squad mixed with leadership and talent.

Swope Park will not be an easy task. The team contracts a slew of former SuperDraft picks and MLS veterans that will give OKC a run for their money away from home.

Saturday night's match should prove to be an enjoyable specticle to watch. This Western Conference clash should be keenly observed as both clubs are gearing for a high spot in the playoffs.
