It is beginning to show that FC Dallas has utilized their trip to Argentina to prepare themselves to run out the gates once competitive matches started. That began tonight with FC Dallas' dominate win over Arabe Unido. Between Colman opening his scoring account, Kellyn getting his first competitive brace, and a large aggregate going into the second leg, there is plenty to talk about.
Hernan Grana is going to be a hit.
Hernan Grana was one of four players to make their debuts in the CCL Quarterfinal, but the 31 year old Argentine was a player who made his mark tonight. Grana was a work horse, he was a rock in the defense, and added quality to the attack.
Between him and Lamah, we should be seeing plenty of service from the flanks. It looks like when Barrios is playing on the right, he will cut in centrally, allowing Grana to run down the flank, and provide the crosses. Grana went down in the 84th minute and was subbed off for Atiba Harris. According to Oscar Pareja in the post game press conference, he said that it was just a knock and that it was precautionary.
The Chinese Calendar was wrong, it's actually the year of the Kellyn
Kellyn Acosta netted his first brace in a man of the match performance. The 21 year old homegrown dominated the center of the park against a distraught Unido midfield. What could be the cause? This will be his fourth season as a regular in the side, he knows his teammates well and how to click with them. In a post match interview, he said that an aspect of his game he is working on is his decision making, which includes not being afraid to take more shots instead of passing. Could this be a season where we see goals from Kellyn Acosta? Which leads into the final talking point..
This attack will be fun to watch this season, and should be an easy coast into the semis.
Where to begin? Roland Lamah has a pass that once this side fully clicks and is in mid season form, will be absolutely lethal to defenses across the league. We also see tactical versatility, we saw Urruti dropping back deep, Lamah and Barrios switching flanks consistently, switch to true wingers in a 4-2-31, and everything in between. Cristian Colman also has a nice bit of pace as well as shown in the goal that opened his account with FC Dallas.
Bring in the aforementioned Hernan Grana, and eventually Anibal Chala, there will be loads of pace in our attack and will see versatility between possession and counter attack play this season.
Up next: Leg two vs Arabe Unido. FC Dallas currently has a 4-0 aggregate lead. The winner of this series will play the winners of Saprissa and Pachuca, who is currently tied 0-0 on aggregate.
