Welcome to another week of Big D Soccer’s coverage of your favorite players with ties to FC Dallas, the FCD Academy, and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
Rogelio and Monterrey fall short, Blas looks to have a new home, and Weston continues to show good form.
Weston McKennie (AP - Schalke 04/Bundesliga): Weston started Saturday, at Borussia M’gladbach. Weston played the full match and looked to have broken out of that mini-slump he had going, as Schalke 04 got a 1-1 road draw. It was on the defensive side, where Weston shined, with 2 Tackles, 2 Interceptions, 3 Clearances, and 1 Blocked Shot. Weston also had 82.8% pass completion, but it was mostly of the keep possession kind.
Weston started Wednesday, at home against visiting Augsburg. Weston played the full 90, and had another solid match, as Schalke 04 won 3-2.
The draw and win see Schalke 04, stretch their unbeaten streak to 11 matches, as they climb back to 2nd place in the Bundesliga Table.

Keaton Parks (DFW - Benfica II/Segunda Liga): Keaton started off the week with big news:
Official: Only four months after joining Benfica on a 4-year deal from Varzim, American B team midfielder Keaton Parks has got his contract renewed to 2022. Benfica have reportedly slapped a €40m release clause on the 20-year-old, who got his first team debut last month. pic.twitter.com/N011L0rHfJ— Jan Hagen (@PortuBall) December 7, 2017
There was some excitement that Keaton would see minutes with the first team, but that didn’t come to pass.
Keaton was back with Benfica II on Sunday and got the start against visiting Sporting CP II. Keaton had what many have described as a very good performance, and Benfica II went on to achieve a 2-1 victory.
Not sure what to make of Keaton playing with Benfica II following his contract extension. It should be pointed out that Benfica is said to have fielded their strongest possible reserve team against their bitter rivals. So it will be interesting to see if Keaton returns to the first team sooner than later.
