FC Dallas picks up $50,000 in General Allocation Money in deal with Vancouver

It seems like a quiet move but this one helps the bottom line in the rebuild.

FC Dallas has acquired $50,000 of General Allocation Money from Vancouver Whitecaps FC in exchange for the MLS right of first refusal on Venezuelan striker Anthony Blondell.

FC Dallas previously held the MLS right of first refusal on Blondell per the league’s discovery signing mechanism.

Whitecaps FC announced today that the club acquired the 23-year-old forward from Venezuelan Primera División side Monagas SC.

Blondell is a fairly big signing for Vancouver as they had to use some Targeted Allocation Money to do so. He scored 33 goals in 70 starts and 115 appearances over six seasons in the Venezuelan Primera División. In 2017 alone he scored 23 goals in 33 starts, helping Monagas SC win the Torneo Apertura title.

This $50,000 should help things out a bit after FC Dallas lost $75000 in allocation money after the Michael Barrios substitute fiasco back in September. Time will tell if this move ends up working out in FCD’s favor or Vancouver’s though.
