October Outlook: Will FC Dallas make it to the post season?

Three games and nine points remain on the FCD schedule this season.

Here we are. The final calendar month of the regular season for FC Dallas as they look to reach the post season for the fourth straight year.

The winless streak that the club brought in to September ended thankfully with last week’s two shutout effort. Three games now stand between Dallas and playoff glory.

Colorado Rapids - away - October 7 (8 pm)

A little more than a week after playing the Rapids at home, FCD travels to Colorado to face them again for the third and final time this season. So far this season, Dallas has been able to shutout the Rapids’ attack with a 0-0 draw and then last week’s 2-0 win. If they can snag an early goal in this one, it could go a long way in securing points.

Seattle Sounders - away - October 15 (6:30 pm)

This will certainly be the trickiest of games this month for FC Dallas. The two sides met to a 0-0 draw last month but we know going to Seattle is never an easy task for any club, let alone this one. Between the turf, the crowd and the way Seattle plays at home, a draw would be the best case scenario right now.

LA Galaxy - home - October 22 (3 pm)

Last but certainly not least is the Decision Day match with the Galaxy. It is insane to me that our last meeting was back in March with this club, and boy they are so drastically different than that team that FCD beat 2-1. LA has a different coach now in Sigi Schmid, a completely hammered defensive line due to injuries and transfers, and a team that just hopes to avoid the dishonor of the league’s worst team label.

Given how things have gone as of late for this group, the nine available points are big. They have the vital game-in-hand currently in the standings over some other clubs, but so far they haven’t really been able to tap into that card.

To say that these three games are ‘must-wins’ may be understating things a bit but they certainly are all important. It all starts with Saturday in Colorado. A win there gets the momentum clearly back in this club’s corner and will push them above the red line again with the final two weeks to play.

Right now anything less than six points will be a total disappointment in my book since that would easily spell the end of the season for this group. They may not need all nine but getting all nine would really put this team into a good place before the playoffs.

What do you see happening this month or FC Dallas? All nine? Just six? Or something far more disappointing?
