Hoops Home & Abroad: Season concluded for several players

Only a couple of players are left standing in MLS & USL/NASL action.

Welcome to another week of Big D Soccer’s coverage of your favorite players with ties to FC Dallas, the FCD Academy, and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

With playoffs underway in MLS & USL, the seasons of several players, came to an abrupt end. Fabian returned to the starting lineup for Trabzonspor, Weston finally returned to action from injury, and David Texeira saw action in Europa League.

With FC Dallas concluding its season, we’re all in for a long offseason. So to help some of us with withdrawals, upcoming scheduled matches for all the players covered here will be included during the MLS offseason.


Weston McKennie (AP - Schalke 04/Bundesliga): Weston suited up but did not play Friday in Schalke 04’s 2-0 home victory over Mainz 05. The victory has Schalke 04, 5th place in the Bundesliga Table.

Weston suited up Tuesday in DFB Pokal (German Cup) action, as Schalke 04 visited SV Wehen Wiesbaden (German 3rd Division). Weston came on in the 57th minute, with Schalke 04 protecting a 2-1 lead. Schalke 04 would go on to win by that very same scoreline, thus advancing to the next round of the DFB Pokal.

Keaton Parks (DFW - Benfica II/Segunda Liga): Keaton picked up a bump or two while training with the senior team last week. Keaton was kept out of the lineup Sunday, due to a minor injury, as Benfica II defeated visiting Uniao Madeira by a score of 2-1

The win sees Benfica II climb to 6th place in the Segunda Liga Table.

David Texeira (FCD - Vitoria Guimaraes/Primeira Liga): David suited up Thursday in Europa League action at Olympique Marseille (Ligue 1). With the match all knotted up at 1, David came on in the 72nd minute, looking to spark the Vitoria attack. Vitoria Guimaraes would go on to lose 2-1, and now finds itself last place in Group I.

David did not suit up Monday, as Vitoria Guimaraes settled for a 3-3 home draw against Portimonense. The draw leaves Vitoria G 10th place in the Primeira Liga Table.

Emerson Hyndman (DFW - AFC Bournemouth/EPL): Emerson was on the bench Tuesday, but did not see any action, as The Cherries defeated Middlesbrough 3-1 in the English Carabao Cup.

Next Match: Does it really matter? Emerson is simply not getting on the field.

Fabian Castillo (FCD - Trabzonspor/Super Lig): Fabian was on the bench Saturday at Yeni Malatyaspor. Fabian never got on the field, as Trabzonspor suffered a player ejection in the 31st minute. Down to 10 men, Trabzonspor had no choice but to use only defensive substitutes. Trabzonspor would go on to lose 1-0.

The loss drops Trabzonspor to 13th place in the Super Lig Table.

Trabzonspor was in action Wednesday at Çorum Belediyespor (Turkish 3rd Division) in Turkish Cup action. Fabian got the start, and played 68 minutes before being subbed off, at which time Trabzonspor was up 3-0. Trabzonspor advanced to the next round with a 6-0 victory.

Mexico - Apertura Torneo

Rogelio Funes Mori (DFW - Monterrey/Liga MX): Rogelio suited up Sunday at Pumas UNAM. Rogelio did not play, as Monterrey went on to get a 1-0 victory.

The win keeps Monterrey 1st place in the Liga MX Table.

Monterrey hosted Universidad Guadalajara, Wednesday night, in Copa MX action.

Alejandro Zendejas (FCD/AP - Atletico Zacatepec/Ascenso MX): Alex started Saturday at Dorados. Alex played the full match, as Zacatepec won 1-0.

The victory moves Atletico Zacatepec to 6th place in the Ascenso MX .

Atletico Zacatepec traveled to Pachuca, Wednesday night, in Copa MX action.

Omar Gonzalez (DFW - Pachuca/Liga MX): Omar did not suit up Saturday, as Pachuca defeated visiting Puebla 1-0.

The win sees Pachuca climb to 11th place in the Liga MX Table.

Pachuca hosted Atletico Zacatepec, Wednesday night in Copa MX action.

Central America & South America

Blas Perez (FCD) & Nicholas Hagen (AP - Municipal/Guatemala): Nick started and Blas suited up. Blas came after the 47th minute, with Municipal trailing 1-0. Municipal would go on to lose 1-0. The loss drops Municipal to 7th place in the Liga Nacional Table.

The loss has Municipal in a 3 match winless streak, and it caused the fans to turn on coach Gustavo Machain. The fans are frustrated with the team’s inconsistent play, and it lead to Machain’s ouster on Monday. On Wednesday, Municipal announced their new head coach, Paraguayan Ever Hugo Almeida , who has coached the team in scarlet seasons 2001 to 2004, scoring three Liga Nacional championships, two Copa Centenario and UNCAF Cup.

Moises Hernandez (FCD/AP - Comunicaciones/Guatemala): Moises started Saturday against visiting Malacateco. Moises played the full match, and Los Cremas won 3-0.

The win moves Comunicaciones to 6th place in the Liga Nacional Table.

Anibal Chala (FCD - LDU Quito, Loan/Ecuador): Anibal started Sunday at 1st place Delfin. Both teams entered in red hot form, with Delfin in a 5 match unbeaten streak, and LDU Quito in a 6 match undefeated streak. It would be LDU Quito who would leave with their unbeaten streak intact, following an impressive 5-2 victory.

LDU Quito now owns an 7 match unbeaten streak, and has climbed to 4th place in the Primera A Table, just 2 points out of 1st place.

Major League Soccer

Lee Nguyen (DFW - New England Revolution): Lee did not suit up Sunday at Montreal. Montreal went on to win 3-2.

This concludes New England’s season, 7th place in the Eastern Conference.

Greg Garza (DFW - Atlanta United FC): Greg did not suit up on Sunday, as he is still out with an injury. Atlanta would go on to get a 2-2 draw against Toronto FC, in front of an MLS single game record breaking crowd of 70,245

The draw sees Atlanta United FC having to settle for the 4th seed in the MLS Eastern Conference Playoffs.

Jared Jeffrey (DFW - D.C. United): Jared has not featured in the last 8 matches for DC United, and that includes not suiting up this past Sunday, as DCU lost 2-1 against visiting the New York Redbulls.

DC United has concluded its season, 11th place in the Eastern Conference.

USL & NASL (All USL Games are available for replay on USL YouTube)

Corben Bone (DFW - FC Cincinnati): Corben started Saturday, at the Tampa Bay Rowdies, in USL Eastern Conference Playoffs action. FC Cincinnati was badly outplayed, and their season came to an end, following a 3-0 loss.

Stephen McCarthy (DFW), Connor Presley (AP - San Antonio FC): McCarthy started and played the full match, as San Antonio FC hosted Tulsa in USL Western Conference Playoffs. San Antonio advanced to the next round, with a 2-1 victory.

Connor Doyle (DFW - Puerto Rico FC): Connor has not featured recently for PRFC, and did not suit up for PRFC in their last 2 matches, both PRFC victories, 2-0 over Indy Eleven, and 2-0 over Edmonton FC.
