Workhorse of the Week vs. Los Angeles Galaxy

5-1. A nice win to close out a forgettable season. Who is your Workhorse of the Week?

MLS: Los Angeles Galaxy at FC Dallas Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

No One grabbed another Workhorse win, which may put it in contention for the Workhorse of the Year in a few weeks. We’ll see.

5-1.

On Sunday afternoon, you could tell that FC Dallas didn’t want to end the season with another droll display. It helped that the Los Angeles Galaxy are woeful, poorly constructed, and a mess (thanks to Bruce Arena). It also was nice to see a strong lineup. And the energy - the energy was much improved even after going down a goal early.

Roland Lamah was in the right place at the right time in this one, scoring a brace via a poacher’s type goal and a slick header. Mauro Diaz chipped in a penalty kick. Matt Hedges got one, and Michael Barrios probably had the best goal of the day. The scoring was great - the team looked alive.

Defensively, the team were able to thwart LA’s attacks well enough. Maynor and Matt paired competently in the middle. Hernan Grana was mostly forgettable but not cringe worthy. Ryan Hollingshead was also okay at left back.

Our midfield looked sharp. Kellyn Acosta looked like the Kellyn Acosta of old, nearly getting on a cross. Carlos Gruezo chewed up the midfield and shielded the back line. Mauro Diaz sprinted around the field looking like the Mauro of old.

All in all, this was a great performance, even if the team couldn’t get the chips to fall their way. There is definitely some hope for how this team might come out next season with adjustments and changes and fresh faces.

But...

Why couldn’t someone have scored one of those goals at some other point in that long fruitless run?

A single point, a single defensive stop, a single goal - and this team would be in the playoffs. That’s frustrating.

Where was this team against Seattle the week before? Where was this team against Colorado?

We are left with questions and uncertainties.

So while the end result was nice against LA, we fans are deservedly quite disappointed in this this team’s miserable season. There will be plenty of time to break down that lingering disappointment and wonder who deserves to stay and who should go. Stay tuned for future articles and mailbags and endless discussion as silly season begins.

For the final time this season, vote for the Workhorse of the Week. As mentioned above, there are plenty of players worthy of a vote. I’m going to recommend Carlos Gruezo who seemed to have emerged out of his funk lately and played quite well. In this one, it looked like the Gruezo that this team needs for the future. Vote and share your thoughts in the comments below.
