Hoops Home & Abroad: Keaton Parks trains with Benfica

The youngster continues his rise within the Portuguese giants.

Welcome to another week of Big D Soccer’s coverage of your favorite players with ties to FC Dallas, the FCD Academy, and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

It was a rather quiet week due to the International break. Keaton got called up to train with the senior team, Castillo starts to show signs of regaining his form, and Emerson continues to feature for the Cherries reserves.

Europe - International Break

Weston McKennie (AP - Schalke 04/Bundesliga): McKennie spent the past couple of days doing individual training drills. McKennie is still listed as questionable for Saturday’s match against Hertha BSC, and will likely be a matchday decision.

Keaton Parks (DFW - Benfica II/Segunda Liga): Keaton was one of two Benfica II players who were brought up to train with the senior team during the International break.

Here’s a Portuguese video interview with Keaton, about his training with the senior team. Even though the video is in Portuguese. Keaton’s replies are in English, and the video features training footage. It’s well worth your time:

David Texeira (FCD - Vitoria Guimaraes/Primeira Liga): David did not suit up Saturday, as Vitoria hosted CD Feirense (Primeira Liga) in the Taça da Liga (Portuguese League Cup). Vitoria had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

The draw leaves Vitoria Guimaraes tied for first place in Group C.

Emerson Hyndman (DFW - AFC Bournemouth/EPL): Emerson continues to feature for the AFC Bournemouth reserves. Emerson started Tuesday for The Cherries U21 squad, and played 90 minutes in a 3-2 victory over Cheltenham Town U21s.

Fabian Castillo (FCD - Trabzonspor/Super Lig): Fabian started Sunday in a Club Friendly, as Trabzonspor travelled to Qatar, where they faced co-league leaders Al Sadd SC.

It was a great match for Fabi, who quickly reminded that Trabzonspor faithfull what he brings to the table:

Fabi’s goal would be equalled by Al Sadd soon enough, but Trabzonspor still managed to leave with a 2-1 victory.

Mexico - Apertura Torneo - International Break

Rogelio Funes Mori (DFW - Monterrey/Liga MX): No match scheduled.

Alejandro Zendejas (FCD/AP - Atletico Zacatepec/Ascenso MX): Alex started Saturday against visiting Correcaminos. Alex played the full match, as Atletico Zacatepec managed a 2-1 victory.

The win sees Zacatepec climb to 9th place in the Ascenso MX Table.

Omar Gonzalez (DFW - Pachuca/Liga MX): No match scheduled.

Central America & South America

Blas Perez (FCD) & Nicholas Hagen (AP - Municipal/Guatemala): Blas did not play, as he was off, you know, helping his nation eliminate the USMNT from the World Cup.

Nick started, and managed his 5th clean sheet of the season, as Municipal won 2-0.

Despite the victory, Municipal dropped to second on the Liga Nacional Table. The reason for the drop, is that Municipal has 1 match on hand.

Moises Hernandez (FCD/AP - Comunicaciones/Guatemala): Moises started Sunday at Guastatoya. It was a foul mired affair, with 11 yellows handed out during the course of the match. Sadly for Los Cremas, two of those yellows were in the first half against the same player. Los Cremas had to play the entire second half with 10 men, and Moises even got in on the yellow card fun. Los Cremas lost 2-0.

The loss drops Comunicaciones down to 6th place on the Liga Nacional Table.

Anibal Chala (FCD - LDU Quito, Loan/Ecuador): Anibal started Saturday at Fuerza Amarilla. Anibal played the full match, as LDU Quito rallied for a 1-1 draw.

The draw sees LDU Quito to 9th place in the Primera A Table.

Major League Soccer - International Break

Lee Nguyen (DFW - New England Revolution): No match scheduled.

Greg Garza (DFW - Atlanta United FC): No match scheduled.

Jared Jeffrey (DFW - D.C. United): No match scheduled.

Dillon Powers (DFW - Orlando City SC): No match scheduled.

USL & NASL (All USL Games are available for replay on USL YouTube)

Adonijah Reid (FCD - Ottawa Fury FC): Adonijah started Sunday against visiting FC Cincinnati. Reid got a yellow card in the 24th minute due to dissent. Reid got subbed out in the 71st minute, shortly after Ottawa suffered a player ejection, and the team needed to play more defensively. Ottawa didn’t really have too much to worry about, as they had built a 4-0 lead at the time of the ejection. Ottawa would hold defensively, and go on to win 4-0.

Corben Bone (DFW - FC Cincinnati): Corben started and played the full match, in Sunday’s 4-0 loss at Ottawa Fury FC.

Stephen McCarthy (DFW), Devin Vega (AP), Connor Presley (AP - San Antonio FC): Devin did not suit up. Connor suited up but did not play. Stephen started Saturday, and played 92 minutes in a 1-1 draw against the visiting Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Walker Hume started for Orange County FC in a dreadful 4-1 loss to visiting Reno 1868 FC

Connor Doyle (DFW - Puerto Rico FC): Connor started Saturday against the San Francisco Deltas, in a 1-0 loss.
