The never ending saga with Fabian Castillo and his transferring to Turkish side Trabzonspor appears to be coming to an end real soon.
Last summer Castillo left out of the blue to join the Turkish side. After some back and forth between the two clubs, the league and Castillo’s agent, Trabzonspor paid Dallas $3 million to complete the loan deal, and hold a $1 million option to permanently acquire Castillo.
Now the deadline is this weekend and if they decline their option to buy him, his rights will return to Dallas.
All signs appear to be that they will decline his option as he has yet to train with the Turkish side these last few weeks. Castillo has zero goals and one assist in 14 games in league and cup competition for Trabzonspor, who are currently in 13th place in the 18-team Turkish Super Lig.
It doesn’t appear that FCD will be out of the woods on having to sell him though. ESPN.com.mx reported earlier in the week that Club America are interested in signing Castillo. Club America has been interested in Castillo before and the report suggests they would be his ‘first choice’ should things fall apart in Turkey.
Big D Soccer has learned that the club does intend to sell Castillo one way or the other this winter. Whether or not they’ll get that $1 million transfer fee for him remains to be seen. Some believe that his transfer value has taken a huge hit while in Turkey but FCD could luck out in getting more money out of Club America than Trabzonspor.
So far his agent hasn’t been nearly as outspoken during all of this but given the way he tweeted about things back in the summer, you may want to keep an eye on his timeline.
What do you all make of these developments? Do you think FCD will be able to get a fair transfer deal for him if Trabzonspor decides not to keep him? Do you want him back?
