What does FC Dallas still have to do this offseason?

FC Dallas has been busy this offseason, but what spots do they need to fill as the calendar pages turn to a new year?

The offseason has been quick for FC Dallas. Once the season ended the front office made several moves to get things going by extending some contracts for players and not for several others. The team made a slew of additions at that point including the signing of three Homegrown players.

Now that we’re into 2017, the offseason is coming quickly to a close in the next few weeks as the team prepares for the annual SuperDraft and then the preseason before kicking things off in the Champions League in late February.

So what is left that needs to happen this offseason? There is still a lot of work to do during what could be a very busy month.

Plenty of SuperDraft picks; Get a third keeper

Right now, FC Dallas has a lot of draft picks at their disposal to play with. In the first two rounds there are three picks. There are the two natural picks in each round and then a second selection in the second round thanks to a trade last winter with LA for Dan Kennedy.

FCD has four other picks in the later rounds, which means there will be a lot of new faces in training camp later this month that will be vying for just a couple roster slots. It is possible that the club could work with their USL affiliate Oklahoma City Energy FC to get a couple guys that they could loan out for the season.

If anything, I would imagine we’ll see the club get a third keeper for the roster out of this draft.

Using that empty DP slot on a #9

We’ve discussed plenty on this space about Fabian Castillo going away for good in the coming weeks and opening up a Designated Player slot on the roster. FCD has plenty of allocation money (both general and targeted) to play with here too.

Right now there are no tangible rumors that link the club with a #9 out there but we know Fernando Clavijo and company have stated that they are looking to spend good money on an attacking player this offseason.

One more center back

Some will talk about getting another fullback but with the additions of Jose Salvatierra, Anibal Chala, and Homegrown defender Reggie Cannon, there really isn’t a true need for another fullback. The center back situation is another story in my mind as you really don’t have a ton of depth behind incumbent starters Matt Hedges and Walker Zimmerman.

What spots on the roster do you think need filled? One more winger instead of a striker? Anything in the midfield lacking to you?
