Despite the trade rumors of moving up, FC Dallas opted to stay at the number 18 pick and with that they selected Wake Forrest midfielder Jacori Hayes.

Hayes started all 25 games Wake Forest this past season, leading the team with eight goals and 19 points while helping the Demon Deacons to the ACC Tournament championship, No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament and a national runner-up finish.

Hayes is a smart central midfielder, one that can play in a box-to-box role. His first touch is one of the best that you’ll see coming out of this rookie class from college. He has decent speed but he is also a crafty attacking player that does well at finding his teammates in space.

He adds a different look to the midfield for FC Dallas. Some analysts today debated as to what his best position would be at the professional level, either a #8 or #6. He’ll certainly slot in the depth charts behind Carlos Gruezo, Kellyn Acosta and Victor Ulloa.

What do you make of this selection by FC Dallas?
