Atlanta is hoping that opening up Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be the key in getting them back on a winning streak as they too are winless in their last four.
FC Dallas notes:
Injury update. We’re back to a clean slate in the injury department.
Against the expansion clubs. FC Dallas has a record of 8-4-3 in the first meeting with MLS expansion sides.
Connections to Atlanta. FC Dallas Academy product Mikey Ambrose was signed by Atlanta United FC with the No. 7 pick in the 2016 MLS Expansion Draft. Ambrose spent the 2016 season with Orlando City SC. Atlanta’s Greg Garza is from Grapevine, Texas, 27 miles away from Toyota Stadium. Atlanta also selected former FC
Limiting shots. According to the club’s game notes, FC Dallas ranks second in the league in shots against (276 or 11.04 per game).
Score early. Since 2015, FCD is 34-1-6 when scoring first. Dallas’ only loss was a 2‐1 defeat to the LA Galaxy on Aug. 15, 2015.
Century mark for Acosta. FC Dallas Homegrown player and U.S. National Team member Kellyn Acosta is due to make his 100th regular season appearance for FC Dallas vs. Atlanta this Sunday. Acosta started his first match in Seattle on August 3, 2013. He missed the last two FC Dallas matches due to a call up to the U.S. team.
Key player for FCD: Matt Hedges. While the attack needs to continue doing what it did a week ago against New York, it is the defense that needs to step things up a bit and Hedges is the guy to lead that charge. If he can rally the troops and find ways to make sure he doesn’t let this Atlanta team slip by him, then we will be in for a positive result.
Biggest Question: Will the highs of opening a new stadium be in FCD’s favor?
Opening up a new venue in this league is always intriguing for various reason. There are the emotions that the fans get of having the shiny new building for their club. Then there is the weird unknowns for each club playing on a new surface and learning the odds and ends there.
Key player for Atlanta: Miguel Almiron. Atlanta comes in with a big attacking core led by Almiron. The Paraguayan is lethal in front of the net and always finds a way to get in behind his marker.
Injuries: OUT — GK Alec Kann (left quad injury); QUESTIONABLE — FW Kenwyne Jones (knee inflammation), DF Mark Bloom (lower back injury)
