FC Dallas ended their ten game slump in style with a 2-0 win over the Colorado Rapids.

FC Dallas head coach Oscar Pareja

Overall thoughts on the game…

I would like to congratulate this group of players that got through this painful period and time. Today we got the three points and we have the energy to keep dreaming about being in the finals. I know the journey is going to be tough, but the boys showed today our faith is intact. We have the character and talent to do it.

I like a lot of the first half, especially when I see a team thinking and creating options with a lot of football. Not just running, but thinking and creating in spaces that were difficult for Colorado to stop. We scored two goals. We could have scored one more in the first half. We really dominated. The second half was really more of a transition game. Colorado started pushing but the boys showed the matureness to control the game by passing and moving and creating in the middle of field. That was the game plan. We did not get out of that plan. We finally got those points. Congratulations to the players for the effort tonight.

On breaking the winless streak…

This is a relief indeed. We are professionals. We live this game every single day. We have escaped from the pain of not being able to get a win despite good performances and watching the ball not bounce our way in two months. What we chose to do is to not make excuses and just confront the situation and wait for our moment. There are still games in front of us. This is still a journey that we can complete. Today all we felt was relief. The stretch is gone. We have responsibility to go away and improve our performances and get points.

On Hernan Grana…

Hernan's confidence to go forward on that side is well known. We see in the analysis that we create a lot of volume and frequency and attack on the right side. That's what we are. We’re going to keep doing it. Hernan and Mikey [Barrios] create options. They're going to continue to keep doing that. Today was a good testimony of that. Hernan finalized today with good passing. The way the boys combined with him in the back was remarkable and we will continue to do that.

On Javier Morales

Today we needed a pain killer. That was Javi tonight. He glued us together. He put his personality on behalf of the team. He got the touches we needed in order to upgrade everybody else’s performances. I'm very proud of him because of the patience he had and the loyalty to the game he has shown. That change in the lineup helped us tremendously today. I've got to say it was the highlight of the win. To have Javi show that personality to carry the team the duration is that we needed.

On Oscar Pareja’s comments that he was the best part of tonight’s victory…

I didn’t feel like that. I felt like the team played much better today, especially at the beginning of the game, the first 15 minutes… The team was really good. Everyone was on the same page. Everyone touched the ball and moved everywhere. We found space. It was not because of me. It was because the team was on the same page and we played our game.

On playing in the defensive midfield role…

I like it. I like playing with good players. To share the field with Mauro [Diaz] is special for me because I consider him one of the best play makers in this league. The work for me is easy. I try to help Carlos [Gruezo] in the middle and when we win the ball, I try to find Mauro. That works for me. I like it a lot because I was able to find him a lot today and he found a way to break their defense.

On playing Orlando this Saturday…

It’s good. The feeling in the locker room is better. We needed this win. A lot. Now, we’re happy and it is good to have a game right away. We’re going to Orlando to try and get three more points.

FC Dallas forward Maxi Urruti

How important was tonight’s match?

Very important. We needed a win like tonight to get into the playoff race and fight. More importantly, we needed a win for the group. We were doing things well, but we weren’t getting the results we needed.
