Both teams come into the match on different paths as New York hasn’t lost in their last three, while FC Dallas is winless in their last six.
FC Dallas notes:
Injury update. Mauro Diaz remains the lone player on the injury report with a hamstring issue. He is listed as questionable.
Call of duty. Five players are out for Oscar Pareja this weekend on international duty, all were recent starters too. Dealing with World Cup qualifying this weekend are Matt Hedges and Kellyn Acosta with the US, Maynor Figueroa with Honduras and Carlos Gruezo with Ecuador. Tesho Akindele is also gone for a friendly with Canada.
No wins since 2012 against NY. The Red Bulls have been a rough out for FC Dallas over the last few years including a big 4-0 beating last year when the two met at Red Bull Arena. New York also has recorded four shutouts in those last few meetings dating back to 2012.
Six dreadful games. According to the club’s game notes, FC Dallas’ six-game winless streak is the longest since a six-game winless run from May 15 to June 19, 2015.
Battle of HGP minutes. Both sides love to use their academy graduates. FC Dallas (4784) ranks second in minutes played by former academy players behind the New York Red Bulls (5222).
Key player for FCD: Maxi Urruti. FC Dallas is 20-0-7 all-time, across all competitions. In the past two MLS seasons FC Dallas is 16-0-7 with Urruti scoring or assisting. The last week has been a wild one with him and Michael Barrios being linked to San Lorenzo. Now that the deal is past them, it is time to get going once again.
Biggest Question: Will the international absences actually be a good thing?
What is funny about the way this year has gone, FCD has actually played some of their best soccer when their top players are missing for international duty. Their big win over Toronto saw guys out and this could be one of those games that because of those absences, other guys step up to prove themselves. Right now, FCD needs that sort of mentality to break out of this slump.
Key player for RBNY: Sacha Kljestan. While we know Bradley Wright-Phillips will be a key guy in their attack that will give Walker Zimmerman and Atiba Harris fits, it will be Kljestan pulling the strings in the midfield. His 12 assists is one of the top in the league right now. Clog up his passing lanes and you will do fine in this one.
Injuries: OUT - M Daniel Royer; QUESTIONABLE - D Aurelien Collin, M Muhamed Keita
International Duty: D Kemar Lawrence (Jamaica), D Michael Amir Murillo (Panama), D Fidel Escobar (Panama)
