FC Dallas vs Sporting KC: Preview, TV schedule and how to watch online

FC Dallas looks to end a three-game winless streak.

MLS: U.S. Open Cup-FC Dallas at Sporting KC Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The road to the playoffs is heating up as FC Dallas leaves Texas for a weekend battle with rivals Sporting Kansas City.

FC Dallas notes:

Injury update. Right now, the list is empty. Let’s keep it that way.

Last time around in league play. These two sides have met twice already in league play (and a third in USOC play). The first meeting was back in March, which saw FCD secure a 0-0 draw in KC. Later on the two sides met in Frisco where FCD got a 1-0 win.

Barrios’ numbers. According to the club’s game notes, nine of Barrios’ 18 goals have come on the road – nine have been scored at Toyota Stadium. On the flip side, 13 of Barrios’ 14 assists occurred at Toyota Stadium.

Defensive shuffle. When FC Dallas’ opening-day back line of Hernan Grana, Walker Zimmerman, Matt Hedges and Maynor Figueroa start a match, the team is 4-1-3 with 11 goals for and six against. Dallas has not been able to run out that back line since May 28.

Key player for FCD: Maxi Urruti. The last few weeks have seen Urruti and the entire attack cool off. We know SKC likes to bring the pressure but Urruti likes to do the same. If he can force the SKC defense into some bad situations, FCD could stand a chance at leaving Children’s Mercy Park with at least a point.

Biggest Question: Will this just be a defensive battle or will some attack show up?

We know SKC blasted FCD in overtime during their Open Cup match last month but we probably shouldn’t expect too many goals in this one. Both teams are stout in the back and SKC hasn’t truly looked like a dominant attacking team this year. One goal will be the difference, and it could come down to set pieces which FCD has been horrible at this season.

Sporting KC Notes:

Key player for Sporting: Ike Opara. I’m staying on the defensive side for another week as the SKC defender has been on top of his game this season. He’s been healthy and he’s also been contributing goals in the attack from time-to-time.

OUT: F - Cameron Porter (broken fibula and ligament damage in right ankle 8/2, out for season)
