FC Dallas vs Colorado Rapids: Preview, TV schedule and how to watch online

FC Dallas looks to end a two-game losing streak.

FC Dallas is back in action as they host rivals Colorado Rapids in a weekend battle.

FC Dallas notes:

Injury update. Right now, the list is empty. Let’s keep it that way.

Last time around in league play. Colorado ended a 19-game unbeaten streak at Toyota Stadium with a 1-0 win against Dallas on Sept. 10, 2016. Dominique Badji scored the match’s only goal in the 52nd minute.

Barrios’ numbers. According to the club’s game notes, nine of Barrios’ 18 goals have come on the road – nine have been scored at Toyota Stadium. On the flip side, 13 of Barrios’ 14 assists occurred at Toyota Stadium.

Defensive shuffle. FC Dallas has uncharacteristically given up seven goals in the last two games. That is 26.9% the goals FCD allowed all season. When FC Dallas’ opening-day back line of Hernan Grana, Walker Zimmerman, Matt Hedges and Maynor Figueroa start a match, the team is 4-1-3 with 11 goals for and six against. Dallas has not been able to run out that back line since May 28.

Key player for FCD: Mauro Diaz. Again, it comes down to the attack as the last couple weeks have been pretty dreadful. Until Diaz gets going here, it could still remain that way. Colorado has struggled in the midfield lately as well and Diaz could find space to be dangerous.

Biggest Question: Will the tough defense return? Or will it be more of the same?

For the majority of the season, the FC Dallas defense has been stout. Only letting goals in here or there but not in droves. The last two weeks have been eye-opening though as they’ve been leaky for the first time all season long, causing the attack to slip up even more and not be nearly as productive. If the defense fails to show up again for a third straight week, then it may be time to panic but I think they’ll sort things out for this one.

Colorado Notes:

Key player for Colorado: Tim Howard. Yes, I’m going with the veteran keeper for this one as their attack lost some flair with Dillion Powers being sent to Orlando this week. Howard tends to earn you points just by being a dominant keeper. He’s made his back line look good this season when they’ve not been.

Colorado’s scoring woes. Colorado has scored 22 goals in 21 games in league play (1.04). That ranks 21st in MLS. The Rapids have taken 196 shots this season (22nd). However, the Rapids have been good late in matches this season, scoring nearly a fourth of its goals in the last 15 minutes of games (27%).

Injuries:

OUT: D Bobby Burling (foot injury), GK Zac MacMath (meniscus surgery)
