Both teams are coming off different results from the weekend, both to Canadian sides. FCD downed Toronto 3-1 thanks to two goals from Roland Lamah. DCU on the other hand struggled away in a 2-0 loss to Montreal.
FC Dallas notes:
Injury update. Once again, just one player to discuss here as Walker Zimmerman continues to rehab his MCL strain.
On call. FC Dallas sees Kellyn Acosta, Matt Hedges and Maynor Figueroa out for this one as they deal with the Gold Cup.
Against DCU at Toyota Stadium. FC Dallas is 14-6-3 (41 GF, 28 GA) vs. D.C. United at Toyota Stadium.
Last time around. FC Dallas defeated D.C. United 3-0 at RFK Stadium. Michael Barrios scored twice before the 28th minute and Maxi Urruti added the third in the 52nd. Mauro Diaz had two assists.
Barrios the creator. According to the club’s game notes, Barrios now has five more assists (8 total) in 16 appearances than he did in either the 2015 or 2016 seasons. Adversely, Barrios has only scored once this season. He found the back of the net 16 times in his first two seasons. He ranks third in MLS in assists behind Toronto’s Vazquez and Atlanta’s Asad.
Finding his groove. Mauro Diaz now has three assists in his last 175 minutes of MLS regular-season action.
Oscar Pareja and the heat. July is Pareja’s best month. His record is 11-1-2 OR a winning percentage of .821%.
Key player for FCD: Maxi Urruti. While I want to focus on what the defense can do in this one to stop DCU from scoring, I know it is all about finding Maxi the ball up top to continue his hot streak. His ten goals this season is putting him on pace for a solid year. He is the first FCD player to score ten goals since 2014 when Blas Perez did so.
Biggest Question: Will this game end up being a let down?
Pareja and the team commented on Saturday night how they made a commitment to these two home games to get six points after picking up draws in Vancouver and Houston last month. DCU has struggled this season away from home and could come in with nothing to lose. FCD has played down at moments this season to their competition but if this commitment is a big deal to them, hopefully they’ll put the hammer down on them.
DC United Notes:
Key player for DCU: Luciano Acosta. If anyone is going to lead this team to points, it is Acosta. The Argentine leads the team with four goals with three of those being game-winning. D.C. United are 8-0-0 when Luciano scores.
Bobby Boswell (groin)
Patrick Mullins (knee)
Rob Vincent (knee)
