FC Dallas has signed goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer, on loan, from North American Soccer League side New York Cosmos.
The 28-year old keeper joined the Cosmos in 2013. He was named to the NASL Best XI in 2014, after posting a 0.91 goals against average in 25 starts. Maurer started 28 games (0.93 GAA) in 2015 and 27 games in 2016, helping New York claim to back-to-back NASL championships.
Maurer has started 13 matches for the Cosmos this season. He is 5-5-3 with a 1.30 GAA and four shutouts.
Maurer has been brought in to back up Chris Seitz during tonight’s game against the Montreal Impact while Jesse Gonzalez is away on national team duty with the United States men’s national team at the Gold Cup.
It isn’t the first time an MLS squad has come for Maurer’s service. Back in 2011, Maurer was signed to a one-game contract for the New York Red Bulls after both their keepers were unavailable.
