FC Dallas vs Portland Timbers: Preview, TV schedule and how to watch online

FC Dallas looks to pick up points on the road in Portland.

MLS: Portland Timbers at FC Dallas Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The big three-game road trip is kicking off this weekend as FC Dallas head to Oregon to battle Western Conference rivals Portland Timbers.

Both sides are coming off home wins last weekend. Portland picked up their win against San Jose, while FC Dallas dominated Real Salt Lake 6-2.

FC Dallas notes:

Injury update. No massive changes to this as Walker Zimmerman and Paxton Pomykal are the only two on the list. Pomykal at least has been seen back in training this week.

Call of duty. That list includes Matt Hedges, Kellyn Acosta, Maynor Figueroa and Tesho Akindele.

Last time out against Portland. These two sides met back in April as they tied 2-2 in Frisco. FCD battled back twice to pick up the draw.

Quietly improving. According to the game notes, Michael Barrios tied a franchise record for assists in a game on June 3, with assists to Lamah (8), Akindele (43) and Ferreira (89). Dallas’ Antonio Martinez completed the triple-assist match twice: 8/11/2001 and 5/18/2002.

Homegrown minutes. FC Dallas currently ranks second in minutes played by Homegrown players this season with 2,555. Red Bull New York leads MLS with 2,812 minutes but has played two more games than Dallas.

Key player for FCD: Maxi Urruti. Just like the previous meeting between these two sides, I think FC Dallas will be leaning heavily in the attack on Urruti as he goes up against his former side.

Biggest Question: Can this patched up defense hold?

The only main expected starter this weekend in the back four is Hernan Grana. Let that one sink in for a moment. Oscar Pareja will have to figure out a way to get Atiba Harris and rookie Walker Hume working well together in the middle of the defense. Or he could opt to go with Harris and Aaron Guillen, and make a lot of us happy by throwing out Reggie Cannon on the wings. Either way, there is going to be a lot of focus on this defensive group tomorrow.

Portland Notes:

Key player for Portland: Diego Valeri.

OUT: Gbenga Arokoyo (achilles), Chance Myers (hamstring)

QUESTIONABLE: Darren Mattocks (adductor), Jack Barmby (ankle)

Call ups:

Darlington Nagbe (USA); David Guzmán (Costa Rica); Alvas Powell (Jamaica)
