The Pigeons are coming off two straight wins including a 3-1 win over Atlanta United last weekend. FC Dallas on the other hand are undefeated in 13 games, spanning over this season and last, winning seven and tying six, keeping a huge seven clean sheets in that time.
FC Dallas notes:
Injury update. Once again it is still Mauro Diaz on the injury list with his Achilles’ injury. Outside of that, we’re looking at an unreported ankle strain for Paxton Pomykal and an abductor strain for Anibal Chala.
Last match with NYC. NYCFC and FCD drew 2‐2 at Yankee Stadium on Sept. 17, 2016. Jack Harrison had two assists for New York while Maxi Urruti had a goal and an assist.
Late goals. FC Dallas ranks first in the league in second‐half goals per game (1.375), just ahead of New York City FC and Seattle (1.11). NYCFC has not allowed a goal in the final 15 minutes of matches this season.
Key player for FCD: Carlos Gruezo. As good as City’s attack is with David Villa, Gruezo will have to be the guy that shuts things down out of the midfield. If he limits the passing lanes like we know he can do and then facilitate things forward, FC Dallas should have a decent shot at coming out of this match with points.
Biggest Question: Will FCD sit back and allow NYCFC the high possession they like?
In a way it is a clash of styles as New York City loves to maintain a lot of possession in the game. In fact, they lead the lead in possession percentage with nearly 60% per game. FCD on the other hand is near the bottom of the league at an average of around 42%. We know Oscar Pareja wants his team to pick their spots and I would imagine they’ll be fine sitting back a bit and catching City on the counter.
New York City FC Notes:
Key player for NYCFC: David Villa. It always comes down to what Villa can do on and off the ball. He’s lethal around goal and his movement off the ball is still world class.
OUT: F - Khiry Shelton (hamstring injury, out 4-6 weeks), D - Ronald Matarrita (high ankle sprain, out 4-6 weeks)
