FC Dallas vs Portland Timbers: Preview, TV schedule and how to watch online

Will FC Dallas be able to slow down the Portland attack?

MLS: Portland Timbers at FC Dallas Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

For the second week in a row, FC Dallas plays host to one of the top teams in the Western Conference, as the Portland Timbers come to town.

Portland is currently sitting atop the conference standings with a recent win over rivals Vancouver.

FC Dallas notes:

Injury update. Right now it is still Mauro Diaz and his Achilles recovery. He’ll be out for this one again while keeper Chris Seitz is listed as questionable with a hamstring injury.

Against Portland. FC Dallas has won four straight vs. Portland, dating back to July 25, 2015. FCD has outscored the Timbers 12‐4, during that stretch, allowing one goal against in all four matches.

Something will have to give. Portland leads MLS with 18 goals in eight matches or 2.25 goals per game. Dallas leads MLS in goals against, allowing just 0.50 goals per game.

Key player for FCD: Maxi Urruti. You know he wants to score against his old side. I would expect Maxi to play with a different level of passion on Saturday that will be pushing hard for a goal at all cost.

Biggest Question: Which will work out better, the top defense or the top offense?

Last week it was all about the defensive battle with SKC. This week we get a different challenge as Portland brings their top rated offense into Fortress Frisco. Dallas has done well so far this season against some decent attacking teams like New England and Minnesota.

Portland Notes:

Key player for Portland: Darlington Nagbe. The once Dallas killer has been cold against FCD in recent meetings. Nagbe is playing at a very high level so far this season and will be tasked with carrying the offensive load with Diego Valeri being out.

First and last. According to the club’s game notes, so far this season, the Timbers rank tied for the most goals in the first 15 minutes, with Portland scoring five times in the opening portion of matches in 2017. Conversely, Portland also ranks tied for the most goals scored in the final 15 minutes of matches, scoring five times in the final moments of the game.

Injuries:

OUT: Gbenga Arokoyo (achilles), Jake Gleeson (hip flexor strain), Diego Valeri (Quad strain)
