FC Dallas vs Sporting Kansas City: Preview, TV schedule and how to watch online

Will FC Dallas be able to break down the tough SKC defense?

MLS: FC Dallas at Sporting KC Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports

A two-game home stand begins tomorrow night for FC Dallas as they host rivals Sporting Kansas City.

The two sides met earlier in the season back in the week two when they tied 0-0. Oscar Pareja used a pretty reserve heavy lineup that night in Kansas City, so how will things go with his regular group tomorrow?

FC Dallas notes:

Injury update. The big news this week was that Mauro Diaz was seen back out at training but the bad news is he’s still a long way from returning to full training with the team. Aside from that Chris Seitz will be out for this one with a hamstring injury.

Youth taking notice. It has been a busy few weeks for some of the Dallas Homegrown players. After competing in the Dallas Cup a week ago, Paxton Pomykal received a US U-18 call up, while Bryan Reynolds is busy with the U-17s.

Go for two. FC Dallas is 35‐1‐3 since 2015 when scoring at least two goals.

Key player for FCD: Carlos Gruezo. This one comes down to locking down the midfield and limiting what guys like Benny Feilhaber are able to do in the midfield. Sporting has scored four of their six goals from the run of play, largely due to how the midfield plays. If he limits their passing lanes, it will relieve a lot of pressure on the Dallas back four.

Biggest Question: What will give between the league’s top defenses?

Both teams have given up a combined five goals this season, with three of those goals coming from the penalty spot. We know their last meeting was a 0-0 draw but that was without several key players for Dallas in the attack. If Dallas can get the likes of Michael Barrios, Maxi Urruti and Cristian Colman going early on, the could see some chances open up on the offensive end.

Sporting KC Notes:

Key player for Sporting: Benny Feilhaber. While I would normally point out Dom Dwyer for his nose for goal mentality, it is Feilhaber that concerns me the most. All time against Dallas, Benny has four goals and six assists. Those are the most against any club in MLS that he has faced.

Take you on. SKC is third in MLS in dribbles attempted with 131 and is second with 59 completed dribbles. In other words, their high press has worked well for them this season.

OUT: Diego Rubio (Torn ACL)
