Five matches to circle on FC Dallas’ 2017 schedule

Now that the schedule has been out for a couple weeks, it is time to figure out which ones are worth going all out for this year.

FC Dallas is back in preseason camp today and as we move into a new season it is time to look forward in the calendar to see what games spark our interest. Naturally the usual suspects like First Kick, July 4 and any game against Houston are going to top our lists. Throw in the Champions League and USOC games as well and this is going to be a busy season.

But what about the other games that aren’t going to get nearly as much hype? To me, those are the games that I look forward to the most.

April 8 - Minnesota United

While the first month of the season is always exciting, I think playing an expansion club at home early in the year is a good thing. First off, we really don’t know the type of team that Minnesota will actually be once we get to the season (as of this writing they still have a ton of holes to fill in their roster).

May 6 - Real Salt Lake

Normally road games to Salt Lake don’t excite me a ton but this year has a different feel to it since we have veteran Javier Morales leading our attack. The former RSL guy was a key part in their MLS Cup runs a few years back and is considered a legend to most RSL fans. But how will he be received when he returns back to Utah? To me, that is a big storyline in of itself.

September 9 - Atlanta United

I’m earmarking both expansion clubs this season on the calendar. Not only do we get both of them on the calendar but we also get trips to both of them. I look forward to the Atlanta trip because of the new stadium. While it isn’t technically a soccer-only stadium it will do just fine.

September 30 - Orlando City

We won’t be getting Orlando at home this year but that is okay in my book because we get to go to their lovely new facility in downtown Orlando. Our meetings against OCSC have been pretty simple for FCD these last two years but with Jason Kreis firmly at the helm there in Orlando now, I think we can expect a tougher match this time out.

October 22 - LA Galaxy

Decision Day is always big in MLS. Last year it brought us a Supporters’ Shield trophy when we went to LA. This year will be the same opponent but a different venue as we return home to finish out the season in Frisco.
