FC Dallas has signed academy midfielder Paxton Pomykal, the club’s 15th homegrown player, according to SportsDay’s Rick Gosselin.
Just moments ago, Pomykal confirmed the signing on his personal Twitter account (@paxipomy).
Pomykal, a Lewisville native, is the second-youngest homegrown signing in team history at just 16 years-old. The midfielder was on FC Dallas’ championship U-18 side this year after being called up from the U-16 team before the USSDA Academy Playoffs.
Pomykal has also featured repeatedly with the U.S. Youth National Teams, including as recently as this past August, when the U.S. U-18s won the International Vaclav Jezek Tournament in the Czech Republic. Pomykal scored a goal in the championship game, which the U-18s won, 4-2.
Currently, there is no plan in place as to where Pomykal will play, but with a playoff push coming, it’s highly likely he’ll at least fill in for someone like Coy Craft with the Energy, who would be called into the first team full-time.
