The final month of the season is here as FC Dallas plays host to the LA Galaxy in a big Western Conference showdown.
LA is coming off a 4-2 loss at home last weekend against the Seattle Sounders. FCD is fresh off a pair of road draws in league play at New York City and Real Salt Lake.
The two sides met earlier this season in the semifinal round of the US Open Cup, where FCD won in extra time.
FC Dallas notes:
Injury update. The only injury is still with Zach Loyd.
Goals conceded. According to the game notes, season. Dallas has allowed 21 goals in the first half compared to LA’s 12 but FCD’s youngsters defend better late in the match, allowing just 18 goals compared to LA’s 26 in the second half.
Better with Gruezo. Since May 11, FC Dallas has only lost one match in which Carlos Gruezo has started, a 1‐0 defeat to Real Salt Lake in Utah on Aug. 20.
Key player for FCD: Maxi Urruti. We’ve seen the attack go silent in the last two games (last week’s RSL draw and Wednesday’s CCL draw), so this is a game where Maxi has to step up and be the big time finisher for this team. The LA defense can be leaky at times when you get at them in space and put a lot of pressure on them with speed. Urruti has to in the channels and be the pest that he can be known to be.
Biggest question: Will this be the start of a big month?
We know the chances here that FCD has for a Supporters’ Shield trophy. Two home wins and a road draw at the end of the month should be enough to get us there but it really does start with this game. You win your home games folks, its what I always say.
LA Galaxy Notes:
Injury update. Out – Gyasi Zardes (foot)
Key player for LA: Gio dos Santos. We know what he can do on the field and around goal. If he has the space behind the Dallas defense it could be a long night.
