As the Oklahoma City Energy close at their final home match of the 2016 Regular Season, Jimmy Nielsen and company will take on Western Conference club Saint Louis FC at Taft Stadium late Saturday night.
Following their dissapointinting 2-1 away loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps 2, the Energy will look to bounce back against STLFC, potentially gaining form ahead of the 2016 USL postseason.
Taking on the Energy this season is Saint Louis FC, who have yet again missed the USL postseason. STLFC, who are led by Irvin Herrera, are an attacking threat with multiple weapons up front. On the other hand, the Energy are a defensive powerhouse who can do little on the offensive end. With these two opposite teams clashing together this weekend, it should make for an exciting and interesting match.
Predicted Score: With the Energy closing out their USL 2016 Regular Season at home, they will look to give their fans a show. As Saint Louis prepare for a long off-season, Saturday night’s match has little to no meaning. In the end, Energy will grind out an exciting 1-0 win.
Players to Watch:
Cody Laurendi (OKC Energy): Claiming that Cody Laurendi has been the Energy’s best player this season is an understatement. The 28-year-old goalkeeper has proven himself game in and game out, tallying a USL record-tying 12 clean sheets this season. Due to Laurendi’s impressive season, he has earned himself his first international call-up from Puerto Rico, representing his nation with fellow MLS veterans Josh Saunders and Jason Hernandez.
Irvin Herrera (Saint Louis FC): Upon joining Saint Louis FC from Santa Tecla earlier this season, the 25-year-old El Salvador International has left a major impact on this young Saint Louis franchise. Herrera has accumulated an impressive 14 goals this season as well as assisted four, becoming the club's main offensive threat.
