We mentioned briefly this morning in our daily links that the Guatemalan federations is having issues with FIFA. The FEDEFUT will be suspended in FIFA’s eyes until the dispute is revolved.
A FIFA suspension is pretty crazy when you break it all down. Basically the federation is getting booted out of FIFA, which trickles all the way down to the club level as well meaning teams participating in FIFA events are going to have to withdraw.
For those keeping score at home, it means FC Dallas’ next Champions League opponent C.D. Suchitepéquez may have to withdraw from the competition, thus giving FC Dallas the advancement to the quarterfinals next spring.
Big D Soccer has learned from CONCACAF that the suspension will not take effect until October 1, allowing FEDEFUT time to comply with FIFA. But should October roll around and FEDEFUT not comply, then Suchitepéquez will be forced to withdraw and forfeit their return match with FC Dallas.
The two are scheduled to play their first match in what is now become a two-game group decider on September 28 in Frisco with the match in Guatemala set for October 20.
In all honesty, you kind of want to root for this withdraw to take place just in the sense that it will free up some time on the schedule for FCD late in the season as the playoff draw near.
