We all knew winning the US Open Cup would be a special thing for FC Dallas and the Hunt family in particular. FC Dallas president Dan Hunt was easily one of the happiest people in the locker room last night following FC Dallas 4-2 victory over the New England Revolution.
“It means everything,” said Hunt. “It is amazing, I am so excited for our fans, they deserve it. As a family, the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup has such a special place in our heart.”
Hunt was quick to point out how important the win was for the team and for manager Oscar Pareja it was something that was a long time in the making.
“Oscar and I visited a bunch about this and he was really nervous about the whole thing,” explained Hunt. “He wasn’t his usual smiling self. And now I see this big smile and that is the best medicine for this group.”
As a franchise, FC Dallas now adds another trophy to the case that has already seen two academy teams win national titles and a U-14 team go undefeated in their regular season this year. Now the club looks to win the elusive domestic treble, something no Major League Soccer team has ever done.
“The monkey is off our backs,” said Hunt. “Now we’re alive for the domestic treble.
This is just the start. I told the fans that they need to expect us to win every year and expect to win at all levels. I think the pipeline is built and we’re in a good situation for this year, 2017 and 2018. I’m excited about what the future has to offer.“
