The road to the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup final is finally over as FC Dallas hosts the New England Revolution tomorrow night.
The two clubs look to get the first bit of hardware this season, which would also clinch a CONCACAF Champions League spot in next year’s tournament.
FCD comes into this match after their first loss at Toyota Stadium in over a year, falling 1-0 to Colorado on Saturday night. New England enters Tuesday's game with a two-game winning streak having defeated NYCFC 3-1 on Saturday night, their first winning streak since June.
The two sides have met here before in this round as the 2007 final was in Frisco, which saw the Revs come out on top. FC Dallas last won the USOC back in 1997 as the Dallas Burn.
FC Dallas notes:
Injury update. The only injury is still with Zach Loyd.
Last meeting. The two squads faced off earlier this season in New England in a game that saw Kellyn Acosta come up big with two assists in a 4-2 win.
Key player for FCD: Carlos Gruezo. If he locks down the middle of the field, FC Dallas will have more space on the wings to create through Mauro Diaz.
Biggest question: Was Saturday’s loss a good thing?
In a way you could spin it that FCD losing at home last weekend was a good thing to help take off some pressure. But with New England’s season a bit rocky at the moment in terms of the playoff push in the East, this could be a game that defines their season more than anything else. FCD has come up short in big games in the past and will want to put this one away as early as possible.
New England Notes:
Injury update. OUT: M - Xavier Kouassi (right knee surgery); QUESTIONABLE: D - Jordan McCrary (right groin strain) F - Teal Bunbury (right foot injury), Bobby Shuttleworth (lower back injury), D - Donnie Smith (right hamstring strain)
Key player for New England: Lee Nguyen. The Richardson, TX native has been lights out in these last couple of games for the Revs. Stop him, you stand a good chance in slowing down their attack.
