General thoughts on the match…
Obviously, I’m disappointed with the result in an important match, but I can’t stop praising these guys and being proud of their effort. Tonight we were not fine, especially in the last third. We dominated the game the whole time, but that wasn’t enough at the end. We ended up just giving away the result. In the first half, we created some chances that were clearer than in the second half. In the second half, we had heart and character and desire. But we couldn’t break their defense. We have to accept it. This is part of the game. We have been on a terrific journey so far. The boys are doing great. We’re going to turn our minds to what is next, which is this Tuesday.
On choosing to rest some regular starters tonight…
It has been tough to face all three competitions, and not just three competitions, but four competitions as we have five players in international duty. They are playing the Open Cup. They are playing CONCACAF [Champions League]. They play in the league. They play national team qualifications. We need to be smart with them. There’s not too much you can do when you have to face so many competitions. Tonight we wanted to give an opportunity to a couple of guys. The way we planned it, I thought it developed that way, but we were unfortunate not to score.
Was resting guys the plan all week, or a last-minute decision…
It’s difficult for me to make a decision in the last minute. This is something we discussed. We spend hours and hours just trying to get things the way they should be, and we have to accept the outcome… the good and the bad.

On returning from two matches with the U.S. National Team and playing tonight against Colorado…
It’s been a long week. I’ve been traveling a lot, but I felt good today. I recovered well, I mean, training hasn’t been too intense. Coach has been mindful of all the traveling this week with the national team, but otherwise I feel pretty good. I mean, tired legs late in the game, but I think that’s naturally part of the game. I’ll be alright. I’ll be ready to recover well tomorrow and get ready for Tuesday.
On the game plan heading into tonight’s match…
The game plan was to just attack them. We were playing at home. We need to play with energy, come out strong and take the game to them. We did a great job, otherwise we could have done a better job capitalizing. I thought defense was sound. We had one mistake when they had a quick throw in and they punished us, but otherwise I thought we had a good game throughout. We need to be more clinical up top but otherwise we dominated the whole game from start to finish.
What makes Colorado so difficult to play against?
They had some big boys in the back and I thought they were doing well standing in and kind of eliminating the spaces for us. It was hard to find the gaps. They did a good job in that aspect. We had a good look at their goal, we just couldn’t capitalize like we wanted to. We need to review the film and see what we can do to exploit them a little better. They are a tough opponent. They’re pushing for points as well. We’re looking at every game as a final. We have big goals. We’re trying to hold up a Supporters Shield and get the number one seed for the playoffs. Every game we’re looking at it, it felt like a playoff game, like a final, that’s how we have to treat every game.

General thoughts on the match…
We wanted to play our regular style. We were at home. We wanted to impose our will, and I think they’re a hard team to play against. They sit so far back. That messed up our game plan.
On the plan going into the second half…
The plan was to keep pushing. We put Mikey [Barrios] in up top to add another element and try to get a threat in behind their defense. We did get a few chances in the second half, but it just did not work out.
On Tuesday’s U.S. Open Cup Final…
It’s probably the biggest game this team has played… Since I have been here, for sure…We’re all really focused on that game.
The way their defense sits so far back. It’s almost impossible to get in behind their defense. They’re good at absorbing pressure. They’ll just give you possession in the middle of the field and then dare you to break them down through the middle, which is a hard thing to do.
FC Dallas midfielder Victor Ulloa
On Colorado’s goal…
We were trying to move the ball around the back and played a long ball, which went out for a throw-in, and we all got caught out of position. Kellyn [Acosta] and I were too far… He [Dominique Badji] struck the ball well.
On looking ahead to the final on Tuesday…
We took this game like it was a final. We were not overlooking them at all. They had their game plan. They came in… We were just missing that touch in the final third.
On losing at home for the first time in over a year…
It hurts. We never want to lose at home in front of our fans but we have no time to feel sorry for ourselves. We have a big game on Tuesday.
