August Outlook: FC Dallas battles multiple competitions

Six games across three competitions makes for another interesting month for FC Dallas.

Did you realize we only have ten regular season games left in 2016? It is kind of crazy that we’re already at this point in the year for FC Dallas but so far, so good that 24 games into the season, they are atop the league standings.

July was jam packed with games and FC Dallas managed to end the month 13 points out of a possible 18. Not to mention they also advanced in the USOC thanks to a win in Houston.

Now we get a month that has three games in the regular season, two in the Champions League and one in the USOC.

Real Esteli FC - home - CCL - August 4 (7:00 pm)

Tonight marks the first game of the month for FC Dallas and their first CCL game in nearly five years. Getting the game at home is pretty huge considering the amount of time the club will be spending on the road this month.

LA Galaxy - away - USOC - August 10 (9:00 pm)

Having a week between the CCL game with Real Esteli and this does help matters out a good bit. FCD has prioritized the USOC pretty high this year and it is paying off in terms of the results. What is crazy to me is that this will mark the first time in 2016 that these two clubs are meeting. Definitely a playoff preview.

Sporting KC - home - August 13 (8:00 pm)

There will be a bit of a short turn around to the next one as FCD returns home after being out of league play for almost two weeks. SKC has given FCD fits over the years, even at Toyota Stadium but this will likely be labeled as a must-win to keep the momentum going in league play that the team built in June and July.

Real Salt Lake - away - August 20 (9:00 pm)

The end of August won’t be easy as the team hits the road for a couple weeks. First up is a trip to Utah against a RSL team that continues to be up and down in form. The last time the two squared off, FCD got the better end of things. Road games are going to be tough from here on out too, so picking up points will be key.

Real Esteli - away - CCL - August 24 (9:00 pm)

The second meeting in the CCL sees FCD go to Central America in the middle of the week. As long as they can build a good lead at home in the first meeting, this could be a game that we see plenty of reserve players make the trip to go out for a draw away from home.

Houston Dynamo - away - August 27 (8:00 pm)

The final meeting of the year with the Texas Derby rivals. FCD needs a blowout win on the road to retain the cannon for another year thanks to that loss back in week two. Houston has been making several moves over the last week or so and will look almost like a different team by the time these two square off again.

Outlook

Again, we have three league games, two CCL and one USOC game on the menu. If FCD can somehow come away with six points in league play, that would be huge. Teams are going to start closing the gap in the standings due to the games-in-hand that they have over FCD.

On the other side of things, getting at least four points in the CCL is a must. I would also say more importantly, getting a slew of goals tonight will go a long way too.

What do you all make of this month’s schedule? Worried that the play in other competitions will derail the good momentum the club has built so far this summer? How many points in league play do you think they can gain?
