Here is your update from yesterday on Fabian Castillo. Those in Turkey seem to claim a deal will be made official tomorrow. Still nothing on this side of the pond though.
You really never know what to expect in the CCL until you get into it. The Central American teams are always dangerous in different ways but FCD should feel good about starting at home.
Regional success has really been a dream of all MLS teams since the CCL became more of a thing in recent years. I do think FCD has the makings of a team that can do well in this competition.
Real Esteli has been in this tournament a lot but with little success. FCD has to come out early in this one and put in some goals. You can’t let a little team like this hang around for too long.

This was probably one of the bigger shocks of the day yesterday as Sebastien Le Toux was sent to Colorado for some allocation money. I suppose Philly is cleaning up a bit in their midfield after signing Alejandro Bedoya. But damn, I would have taken a chance on Le Toux here.
I don’t know how I would feel if one of the mainstays from the expansion days was sent packing like this.
I know some folks here wish FCD could have landed him but I do think he will be an interesting player for the Union. I think as long as he does better than Mix Diskerud, he’ll be fine.
It may have helped that New York was dealing with a 10-man squad for a good chunk of the game but a 3-0 win is how you start strong in this tournament.
First of all, they played a team called CD Dragon, which is a great CONCACAF team name. But secondly, it took a late goal from Diego Valeri in the 90th minute to get three points.
This is a decent result for FCD in the Western Conference standings. It will continue to be interesting to see how teams do as they play their games-in-hand here in the coming weeks.
Our weekly poll for the top player went to Frank Lampard after his hat trick effort against Colorado.
We’ve said it all year long, the Eastern Conference is a crapshoot but there are some players in it that are certainly making it worth watching right now.
Ola Kamara has scored 10 goals in 11 starts. Impressive.
