Rankings Recap: Texas Derby win puts FC Dallas back on top

After mixed reviews the week prior, FC Dallas is back on top.

MLS: FC Dallas at Houston Dynamo Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Following a loss on the road at Salt Lake, FC Dallas took a little stumble in the Power Rankings across the web. This week is a better as they came off a 3-1 win over Houston, lifting them back on top.

Comment: Relying on Maxi Urruti and Michael Barrios to be your primary goal scorers is a risky proposition. But it looks good when it works, as it did against the Dynamo.

Soccer America Ranking: 1 (last week 1)

Comment: Trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes, FCD rolled forward to score three goals in the same time span to open up a five-point lead atop the Western Conference and overall standings as well. Michael Barrios scored the first of his two goals a minute after Mauro Diaz equalized with a PK, and tallied again in the 79th minute.

ESPNFC.com Ranking: 1 (last week 4)

Comment: FCD bounced back from their loss to Real Salt Lake with a resounding 3-1 win on the road in Houston. Midfielder Michael Barrios provided danger from the wing and produced a two-goal performance in Fabian Castillo's absence.

Comment: FC Dallas covered a ton of ground this week as they opened their action in a CCL match in Nicaragua against Real Esteli. After securing the draw in that match, they traveled back to Texas to take on the Houston Dynamo. Though the Dynamo would seize an early lead, Mauro Diaz would convert a penalty and Michael Barrios would back him up with a brace to secure the 3-1 FCD victory.

Comment: It’s never easy to have an away game in the Champions League midweek then a league game the next Saturday, but Dallas got a good draw away from home in the first then won the second 3-1 over Houston with a second-half flurry of goals. Michael Barrios was superb on Saturday, scoring two beauties. There aren’t many teams in the league that could lose a player like Fabian Castillo and just keep on chugging along. Dallas is one of them.
