After spending nearly 5000 miles in the air over the last week, FC Dallas ended it on a good note Saturday night with a 3-1 win over their main rivals Houston Dynamo.
FC Dallas got all three goals in the second half with two of them coming from Michael Barrios. Mauro Diaz provided the first goal off a penalty kick.
Houston came out early with momentum in this one by getting several chances on Chris Seitz’s goal. In the 19th minute the Dynamo found the lead on a bad giveaway outside the penalty box. Alex scooped up the ball and ran across the middle of the penalty box before firing a shot to the far post past Seitz.
Alex nearly doubled his tally in the 35th minute on another giveaway in the Dallas defense. This time his curling shot would sail just wide of the goal.
Dallas struggled to get anything going offensively in the first half but 15 minutes into the second half their fortunes changed as a Tesho Akindele attempted a shot on goal that would get deflected back off Raul Rodriguez’s arm. The center official immediately called for a penalty that Diaz would hit home for his fourth goal of the season.
Not even a minute later Dallas gain the lead on a route one goal from Barrios. Maynor Figueroa played a ball over the Dynamo defense that Barrios was able to on the end of and put a hard curling shot past Joe Willis.
Barrios was able to double his tally on the night in the 79th minute thanks to another quick counter attack after a missed opportunity on a Houston free kick. A ball was blocked out to Akindele, who pushed the ball up 30 yards into the Houston defensive end before laying it off to Barrios. The Colombian one-timed a shot to the far post to give Dallas the insurance goal.
With the win Dallas remains atop the league standings as they head home for the first of three straight home games starting next weekend with the Portland Timbers.
