FC Dallas continues their Champions League march with their first road game of the group stage in Nicaragua tomorrow night against Real Esteli.
The two sides met in Texas a couple weeks back with FC Dallas coming away with a 2-1 win thanks to a late Maynor Figueroa goal. Real Esteli followed that game up with a 1-0 loss to Guatemalan side C.D. Suchitepéquez last week.
The door is now open for FC Dallas to grab points and get a lead in this group going into the final two games with Suchitepéquez.
FC Dallas notes:
Injury update. The only injury is still with Zach Loyd.
Key player for FCD: Michael Barrios. One thing the attack has lacked over the last couple weeks is a quick burst on the wings. Barrios has to be the guy now to give Dallas that option from the wide positions. If he can get in behind some defenders tomorrow night and extend the field a bit for the attack, Dallas should leave Nicaragua with some points.
Biggest question: Did Oscar Pareja leave the right people back in Texas?
Just based on what we saw in some tweets last night, we know guys like Walker Zimmerman, Mauro Diaz and Maxi Urruti are back in Texas and will be out for tomorrow’s game. Would Pareja been wise to keep someone like Matt Hedges out of this one as well? We’ll find out tomorrow but for the most part he did take a pretty solid group of players that will get good experience from this trip.
