After yet another disappointing goalless draw over the weekend, the OKC Energy will strive to grab all three points at ONEOK Field this Saturday as well as attempt to reignite their offense against their cross-state rivals, the Tulsa Roughnecks.
Following an underwhelming stalemate with former USL runner-ups, Los Angeles Galaxy II, it was clear that the Energy’s main issues came from their inability to finish simple chances. Throughout the match, the OKC Energy created opportunities for their strikers up front, however, nothing would ever come from their productivity in the midfield. Although the OKC side is struggling to put the ball in the back net, many positives can be taken from their defense and goalkeeper.
In the Energy’s last five matches, they have only conceded one goal, a stat that has been achieved through Man of the Match performances from center back Cyprian Hedrick and goalkeeper Cody Laurendi. Even though the Energy have fallen on hard times, they currently remain fifth in the Western Conference with two games behind most sides. Although the goal drought is quite disappointing, it is not something that fans should worry about.
The Energy will travel up Highway 44 on Saturday night to take on rivals, the Tulsa Roughnecks, who currently rest at the bottom of the Western Conference table. The last meeting between the two clubs saw a dominant performance from the Energy, resulting in a massive 3-0 win at Taft Stadium with goals coming from Michael Thomas, Colin Bonner, and Sebastian Dalgaard.
As per usual, this Saturday’s derby match between the two Oklahoma state clubs will have silverware at stake. In this weekend’s Black Gold Derby, the Energy will have the chance to take home the infamous four-foot pipe wrench, which is painted in the colors of both the Energy and Roughnecks, if they are able to grab the win.
With past meetings having gone the Energy’s way, it is hard to go against the OKC side this time. Energy fans should expect a simple win that ends the club’s poor four match goalless streak.
