FC Dallas hits the road for the first of three road games over the next week as they head to Utah to face Real Salt Lake.
FCD is coming off a 2-2 draw last weekend while RSL is coming off a road loss in Seattle.
FC Dallas notes:
Injury update. The only injury is still with Zach Loyd. Really nothing new on that front unfortunately.
Suspensions. Atiba Harris is going to be sitting this one out for a yellow card accumulation.
Minutes being managed. According to the clubs’ game notes, Dallas has only three players in the top 68 (Figueroa, 33rd, 1894, Zimmerman, 38, 1890 and Barrios, 68, 1735) of the league for minutes played this season. That stat is highlighted by the fact that FCD has is tied for second in matches played this season (25).
Early goals. FC Dallas has scored an MLS‐leading 13 goals (tied with NYCFC and NYRB) in the first 30 minutes of matches this season. V
Key player for FCD: Mauro Diaz. Its easy to say that Diaz is the key in this match for FCD just based on his play alone this season. But being back on the road, Diaz will have to pull more strings in the attack and find ways to expose the RSL defense in a manner that Seattle was able to do last weekend.
Biggest question: What kind of priority will this game take over next week’s CCL and Houston games?
We continue to talk about the schedule congestion here as FCD was actually able to enjoy a week without a midweek game for the first time in about a month. They’ll head to Central America right after this game but it wouldn’t shock me to see Oscar Pareja put more emphasis on this road game and next weekend’s road game in Houston than the CCL game.
Injury update. OUT: FW Emery Welshman (hip flexor 3/10) MF Sunday Stephen (face 6/22) DF Aaron Maund (foot 8/10) QUESTIONABLE: M/F Jordan Allen (adductor 7/27)
Key player for RSL: Joao Plata. The Ecuadorian is one of the most crafty players around goal. FCD will have to make sure to keep an extra eye out for him.
