FC Dallas extended their winning and shutout streak on Friday night with a 1-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes.
Dallas got an amazing second half goal from Maxi Urruti in the win to help remain on top of the league standings. The goal was Urruti’s fourth this season and first in league play since March.
San Jose pressed early in this game, testing keeper Chris Seitz several times to come up with saves. The first was on a free kick just outside the penalty box. San Jose’s Aníbal Godoy forced Seitz to make a big stop on the free kick as he made a diving save.
Dallas gave up another dangerous free kick just after the half hour mark as Matt Hedges tripped up Quincy Amarikwa. Godoy took the free kick again but thankfully the ball was cleared from danger by the Dallas defense.
The lone goal of the game came shortly after halftime thanks to some acrobatics from Urruti in the 51st minute. Michael Barrios sent a cross back into the area that was deflected up into the air by San Jose defender Victor Bernardez. Urruti was then at the perfect spot to do a bicycle kick to put the ball into the back of the net.
The Dallas defense continued to hold on to help extend their shutout streak to 315 minutes at the end of the match.
Dallas will remain on the west coast as they visit the Seattle Sounders next Wednesday at CenturyLink Field.
