The quick turnaround for FC Dallas sees the club hit the road for a two-game road trip. First up on that trip is a final regular season match with the San Jose Earthquakes.
The two sides have drawn both of their previous meetings this season, with the most recent one being in May out in San Jose.
FC Dallas is coming off a big win on Monday night over Orlando while the Quakes lost last weekend to the Chicago Fire.
FC Dallas notes:
Injury update. The only injury is still with Zach Loyd. There are reports that he had to restart the concussion protocols this week, so his return is still in question.
Scoring first. Since last season, FC Dallas has a 23-1-2 record when scoring first. Dallas’ only loss was a 2‐1 defeat to the LA Galaxy on Aug. 15 (Dallas’ last home loss).
Scoring pace. According to the club’s game notes, after FCD’s 4‐0 win on Monday, Dallas is on pace to score 60 goals this season, five more than the franchise record of 55, recorded in ‘97 and ‘14.
Key player for FCD: Carlos Gruezo. For me, San Jose is one of those pesky teams that does give Dallas fits in the midfield. If Gruezo can do what he does best, by clogging up the passing lanes and protect Walker Zimmerman and Matt Hedges behind him, it should help open things up for the attack to be a little more free in this one.
Biggest question: Can FCD pick up points on this road trip?
We know the record away from home isn’t great this season because of the three big blowout losses. But Dallas does hold one of the better away records in the league despite that. FCD has to find a way to get points out of this game and next Wednesday’s game in Seattle. It won’t be easy as San Jose holds a 13 game unbeaten streak at home right now.
