General thoughts on the game:
I thought we were the best team on the field tonight from the first minute to 90-plus. That’s a credit to our players who have played eight games in 29 days and finished 6-1-1, and I can’t be prouder than that. All the credit to this group of guys who have done a terrific job being away that much from our ground and coming away today against a very good rival. To be quite honest, I thought Colorado was lucky to not have lost today.
On Victor Ulloa’s goal…
Well-deserved by him, he’s a kid who represented this program. We played with four Homegrowns today and a bunch of young guys who were raised in our Academy, and Victor juts sealed a great night for them. Having the personality to take that shot and put it up in the corner against the man of the match, Tim Howard, was incredible.
Do these feel like these are the two best teams in league?
I would say the standings don’t lie, and the performance today shows the teams are doing great this season. I may agree with that but it needs to be confirmed every game because, for me, every game you start over.
What adjustments did you make at halftime?
We were honest with them in the locker room. They played better and had four chances, while Colorado had two chances. I always give credit to my opponents when they’re much better than us, and tonight we went through the first half feeling good that we were playing the best soccer on the field. In the second half we came out strong with the same mentality knowing that the game is long, and we would have our chances. We created a lot of chances early in the second half and Colorado was waiting for us and trying to counter.
The subs certainly seemed to energize the team…
It’s not easy to play in Colorado, I’ve been here and the Rapids have a tremendous team, and I was expecting to have some tired legs along the game at some point, but the last 15 minutes the response from the team was incredible. Everyone stepped up in the game.
They came with a lot of energy and gave us legs but also ideas. Coy Craft was a good complement for Barrios up front, and Victor Ulloa refreshed us because Carlos (Gruezo) has been playing almost every game. Once again we’re very happy and proud to play the way we did against the Rapids today.

On his goal…
I will remember that one for sure. Coming from the bench you’re just trying to help the team and come with energy. The ball popped out, and all I was thinking was that I was going to shoot it. I’m thankful for all the practice I’ve done. All the guys always give me a hard time, because I’m always looking to pass and finally I let it go, and what a golazo.
When the ball popped out, I saw Coy (Craft), but the only thing on my mind was to shoot it and let it go and see if something would happen, and I’m so grateful and thankful that I scored.
The ‘keeper had a couple great saves and I feel like we deserved more. We’re grateful and thankful for the tie. We’re fighting for first place and still ahead.
It just takes desire to win. All the guys have the mentality that we want to bring a championship to this city, franchise and fans. Just that mentality pushes us through all those games and now we have a little break and will flush all those games out of our system and get ready for next Sunday.

Thoughts on the match…
We knew it was going to be a tough game coming in. We had a big win midweek and were on an emotional high coming in, and we knew it was going to be a tough performance. Give them credit, they played well tonight, but to be honest we held them to just one shot on goal outside of the goal, which is a preventable mistake we can clean up, so we can take a lot of positives from tonight.
How have you dealt with this eight games in 29 days stretch now that it’s coming to an end?
We learn, and we grow from them. We learn how to be good professionals at these times and what works and doesn’t work and we can learn from that.
What can you say about Victor Ulloa’s goal?
He hits those in practice a lot so it’s good to see it in a game. He’s usually passing it wide and on that one Coy (Craft) was wide open, so I thought he was going to. It was going to take something special to beat Tim (Howard) tonight, and Vic (Ulloa) delivered so congrats to him.
