USL Preview: Oklahoma City Energy FC vs Tulsa Roughnecks

Nothing like a good derby match in the USL.

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

With all U.S. Soccer fans keeping a close eye on this weekend's MLS rivalry matches, one epic derby in the country's third division is being overlooked. That match is this Saturday's Black Gold Derby between USL sides OKC Energy and the Tulsa Roughnecks.

The two Oklahoma-based clubs will look to continue their year long rivalry as the Tulsa Roughnecks travel down Highway 44 to the OKC Energy's home turf, Taft Stadium. This match will be the second out of three scheduled meetings between the two sides this season. The first meeting between the clubs resulted in a 2-0 Energy FC win, giving the OKC side a slight edge in the rivalry.

This USL season has seen the two sides move in completely opposite directions, resulting in the OKC Energy sitting close to first in the Western Conference, meanwhile, the Roughnecks underwhelmingly rest last.

Although their season has been ultimately a disaster, the Roughnecks still have a chance at taking home this year's Black Gold Derby award, a four-foot pipe wrench painted in the colors of the Energy and the Roughnecks. The rivalry this season consists of three matches and whoever receives the most amount of points (three for a win, one for a draw) from the results, receive the trophy. Even though the Energy lead with three points to Tulsa's zero, all the Roughnecks need to do is pick up at the least a draw and a win in their remaining two matches against the Energy.

This Saturday night match should be a difficult challenge for the Roughnecks as the Energy go into the game with home field advantage as well as a six-match unbeaten streak. As the Energy push to claim the top spot in the Western Conference, they should easily defeat the Roughnecks at home.

Prediction: Energy FC win 2-0

Predicted Starting Lineups:

OKC Energy FC: Konig, Dalgaard, Byskov, Wojcik, Thomas, Pitter, Ryden, Andrews, Hendrick, Harris, Laurendi
