Fabian Castillo continues his hot form from league play as FC Dallas advances in the 2016 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup on a 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo.
Castillo scored a goal in the first minute of stoppage time to help lift FC Dallas on the road Wednesday night.
Neither team were able to get a lot in terms of possession or chances in the first half. Each team battled the 90 degree weather and high humidity.
Dallas did have a call for a penalty kick in the 39th minute on a break away chance from Michael Barrios. The Colombian had one touch to play himself into the penalty box but Giles Barnes came in with a shoulder challenge to knock Barrios off balance.
Both teams would test the other early on in the second half. Chris Seitz came up big in the 47th minute on Mauro Manotas. A minute later Barrios snuck in behind the Dynamo defense and forced Joe Willis to make a big stop.
Manotas nearly found the back of the net in the 59th minute. The Dynamo attacker got into the penalty box and put a tough shot on goal at a difficult angle. The shot beat Seitz but would rattle off the crossbar and out into play.
After a lot of back and forth play between the two sides, Castillo lurked into the penalty box in the 90th minute with a near post goal. The ball came into Castillo on the left side, the Colombian winger made a couple dribbles around a Dynamo defender before firing a hard shot to the near post past Willis.
