MLS Fantasy Fisticuffs: Round 20

Ben has fallen from his perch. Phil's here to deliver the news. Which MLS Fantasy players should you Buy, Hold, and Sell this week?

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

Fantasy Fisticuffs pits angry combatants head-to-head in an MLS Fantasy soccer showdown. Each week, Phil and Ben argue over which players will perform. The stakes are high. The competitor whose team scores the fewer amount of points through Round 27 (September 3rd) will have to endure two laps of shaming around the Toyota Stadium concourse, Cersei Lannister style (though probably not nude)! Join our league using the code 35-1619 to follow along. After 19 rounds, Ben is holding on to a lead with 1544 points to 1508.

Ben had the lowest score of any of the top 30 players with 69 points and fell from first place overall to fifth place. I only did slightly better with 76 points, and fell from 13th to 14th place. The top score in the Big D Soccer League was Ali Alzaabi's team "Pirlo Class 21" with a whopping 104 points! Congratulations, Ali!

Justin Morrow (D-$7.9) -€” This Toronto FC defender has actually scored a goal in three of his last four starts. TFC has an incredibly favorable schedule, with four straight home games and a Round 22 DGW on the docket.

Diego Valeri -€” (M-$11.2) -€” He's back with a bang! After missing several games with an ankle sprain, he plays 90 minutes against the Sounders, scores two goals, and puts up a massive 15 fantasy points! I feel like I talk about him every week, but that's because he's an absolute must-own MLS Fantasy player.

Sebastian Giovinco (F-$13.0) -€” Sure, he only put up 4 points last week and he's expensive, but you don't want to miss out when he goes off. Plus, he benefits from four straight home games and the R22 DGW just like Morrow.

Daniel Steres (D-$5.5) -€” The LA Galaxy have a tough schedule coming up, with Portland and Seattle away. Both are intimidating environments. But Steres is one of the top bonus point scoring defenders and has posted 9, 8, and 9 points in the last three games. For $5.5, it's tough to beat his output.

Walker Zimmerman (D-$6.6) -€” If Walker plays a full 90 tonight in the U.S. Open Cup matchup against the Houston Dynamo, and it looks like he will since he was held out of the Chicago game last weekend, then it is possible he will be sit against Colorado on the weekend. FC Dallas also has a Round 22 bye, so it might be wise to drop Zim for now.

Roland Alberg (M-$8.5) -€” Alberg exploded against Chicago in Round 15 with a hat trick. But when he doesn't score a goal, he puts up two and three point fantasy duds. If you want a cheap boom-or-bust midfielder, go with NYCFC's Jack Harrison at $5.8.

Lineups lock at 10pm on Friday at the start of RSL vs. SJ. Good luck this week!
