Behind Enemy Lines: Scouting Seattle Sounders

What does FC Dallas need to do to down the Sounders?

MLS: LA Galaxy at Seattle Sounders FC Jennifer Buchanan-USA TODAY Sports

FC Dallas continue their road trip after beating San Jose 1-0, meanwhile Seattle lost to the Galaxy at home 1-0.

The Sounders Longest Season

Seattle is having a dire season. Bottom of the West, terrible home record, which is currently four wins and five losses, and an offense that refuses to click. Seattle is in a transition phase that is going worse than they expected. What can Seattle do to right the ship against top of the league FC Dallas?

Potential Lineup

Seattle is missing Roman Torres this week and tends to favor a 4-3-3.

GK: Stefan Frei; LB: Joevin Jones; CB: Chad Marshall, Zach Scott; RB: Tyrone Mears; CM: Osvaldo Alonso, Erik Friberg, Cristian Roldan; RW: Jordan Morris; LW: Nelson Valdez; FW: Clint Dempsey.

Key Matchup

Maxi Urruti vs. Zach Scott. Urruti has scored less goals lately, but his real power has been his ability to make something out of nothing by chasing loose balls and pressuring defenses. Zach Scott and Chad Marshall are capable defenders, but they will need to be smart and swift in their decision making. One mistake is all Urruti needs to win a dangerous corner or set up a goal.

Keys to Three Points

Keep an eye on Jordan Morris

Jordan Morris has had a good first season thus far. His production has tailed off in recent weeks, but he is one of the few positives for Sounders fans this season. Dallas will have to shut him down like they did in this season’s previous meeting if they want three points.

Take a Lesson from the Galaxy’s Win

The Galaxy came to the C-Link Saturday and held a clean sheet against Seattle, but they could have been more convincing. L.A. let Seattle into the game towards the end and despite not scoring, they made some chances. Letting Seattle find a rhythm could be trouble for Dallas.

Pulling Away from the Pack

FC Dallas is 6-2-1 in MLS in their last nine games. This week’s games are an opportunity to pick up points against two struggling teams. Six points would be a massive leap forward in the Supporter’s Shield race and prove this teams drive to get silverware this season.

Seattle looks tragic this season, and haven’t scored many lately. Dallas puts 3 past Frei, while Seattle manages 1 themselves.

My Prediction: FC Dallas 3-1.
