Congratulations to Ryan Hollingshead for earning another Workhorse of the Week victory for his performance in the mind numbing FC Dallas draw at San Jose. Matt Hedges was not far off in second place.
Going back to my musings last week, I noted the importance of draws in the scheme of a long season. However, draws at home are pretty bad, unless you are facing a much better team (in NACL group stages or something) or go behind early and worked your butt off to get level. Really, neither of those scenarios were in play last Thursday as FC Dallas couldn't seem to muster up anymore than a single goal against a toothless Houston squad.
All it took was one great strike from a savvy veteran for Houston to came away with a big point of their own.
The circumstances were strange. The game started in bizarre weather conditions. The delay sapped energy and sharpness. The crowd was waterlogged. Pareja seemed content with a draw in the end. Missing some players to international call-ups didn't help either. It would have been great to toss Tesho in late to see what he could have done.
In the end, I feel like FC Dallas left points on the table. A draw against Houston is a loss to some of us fans. Is it to you? Or are you satisfied with the circumstances of this odd chapter in the rivalry?
As for performances, Ryan Hollingshead worked hard and earned his goal off of a solid Fabian Castillo pass. Matt Hedges, Walker Zimmerman, and Zach Loyd all did well on the back line. Urruti continued to put in the best he could. Kellyn Acosta looked solid too. But, it still feels disappointing.
By the way, you can always vote for no one.
Go ahead and comment below. I'd love your thoughts on the draw and the players who continue to earn that Workhorse of the Week nod in your mind.
